2.6.2 No longer processing Calibre created Kepubs

Is anyone having any issues sending caliber converted Epubs to Kepubs to any of the Kobo devices using firmware update 2.6.2? Just tried and non of the books converted were recognized. Calibre did say they were where they were supposed to be. So I deleted the books ejected and tried to just manually drop them in.. Same result no recognization of the Calibre created Kepubs. Same books however were processed when sent via Calibre/Side loaded as epubs.

Any one else with similar issues?

If that's true, it's bad news. Did you try just to rename an epub you put on the device to .kepub.epub? Instead of letting the extended kobo driver to handle it.

A little question there : the point of converting to kpub is to be able to use reading life on non kobo books ?

I found a topic about that, saying it's possible, but it's old.

Yes its possible, it should be possible with all books epub or kepub. The point though is tracking your reading statistics and the arrangement of chapters. Really the only thing your doing is changing the .epub to .kepub.epub if there is more to it I cannot say. I like having all my read books and stats being tracked it sort of helps to make the reading more fun.

That is one of the points. Another is that the reader used has different "features"* to that used for epubs.

The firmware tracks some of the stats for epubs. They aren't displayed when reading as they are for kepubs. But, are displayed on the "Reading stats" screen for the current book. You can get these for any epub by adding "BookSpecificStats=true" to the "FeatureSettings" section of the config file. This adds a "Reading Stats" option to the book menu in the library that displays the stats.

* As any programmer knows: It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Correct. for the reading position sync (what we call cloud bookmarking) to work, the book must be obtained from kobo and downloaded / synced from Kobo. Side-loaded books, regardless of where they were obtained from (for example, if it were an ascm file of a book purchased from Kobo) will NOT sync their reading position.

My Kobo Utilities plugin will store the position and restore it to other Kobo devices. But, I know of now way to sync that position to other devices or any of the various reading apps.

The config file is "Kobo eReader.conf" and is in ".kobo\Kobo". You need to open it with a text editor. The file is made up of settings sections that look like:

Code:
[SettingsSection]
SettingName1=settingvalue1
SettingName2=settingvalue2
SettingName3=settingvalue3
To enable the book statistics, look for a section called "FeatureSettings". If it isn't there, add it at the end of the file. Then, add "BookSpecificStats=true". You should end up with:

Code:
[FeatureSettings]
BookSpecificStats=true
Save the file and disconnect the device. In the library list, when you display the menu for a book it should now have the extra option "Reading Stats".

One thing is, I don't know which firmware this was added in. I know it works with 2.8.1 and I think 2.7.x. I don't know about the earlier firmware.

I've just tested 2.9.0 on my Aura HD, it seems that they removed the time stats for sideloaded kepubs, however they still are picked up and processed.

That is correct. Kobo have removed the display from sideloaded kepubs as of 2.9.0. They have stated it was due to errors in the calculation. But, the rest of the stats are collected and displayable in the manner I described earlier.

I love the way kepubs work on the Kobo eReaders so I've decided not to connect to Wi-Fi until this gets fixed to avoid an automatic upgrade of the firmware. I always download my books to the computer but they always show up as epub when you do that. Over Wi-Fi they come in as kepubs. I suppose I'll have to sideload my recent purchases until it's safe to use Wi-Fi again.

(I'm assuming this glitch includes sideloaded books from Kobo.) I'm always getting more books so I hope they get this fixed soon.
