Moon+ Reader and Series
Hello
I use Calibre on Win 11 and on my Android devices I use “Moon+ Reader Pro”. How do I have to proceed so that the books of a series are displayed in the correct order in Moon+ Reader? I am currently reading Eagles of the Empire and I can also see that not all the books in a series are displayed for other series. I export the epub files from Calibre to a directory. This means that in addition to the epub file, the graphic and the “.opf” file are saved there. In the “.OPF” files the order is correct: <meta name=“calibre:series_index” content=“3”/> I then copy the files to the Android device, where I reload the directory with the e-books. The direct sync with Calibre was repeatedly ineffective. It took longer for the device to be recognized or for the files to be read in. The hardware is powerful (Pixel smartphone and ASUS notebook). Can someone from the field explain to me how I can get the books in a series displayed in the correct order on the Moon + Reader? Thank you. Greetings Translated with DeepL.com (free version) |

Have you tried embedding the metadata before exporting the files? That is, the .opf file in the ePub should have the series information embedded. I am not aware that MoonReader+ or any other ePub viewer will use the external calibre .opf file.
Also note that if you are exporting an ePub3 file, it will use the ePub3 standards series information which is not the same as the one that calibre uses for ePub2 ebooks. You would see something like: Code:
<meta property="belongs-to-collection" id="id-6">The Hellspawn Brigade</meta> <meta refines="#id-6" property="collection-type">series</meta> <meta refines="#id-6" property="group-position">6</meta> Code:
<meta name="calibre:series" content="The Hellspawn Brigade" /> <meta name="calibre:series_index" content="5.0" /> Last edited by DNSB; 03-20-2025 at 01:33 AM. Reason: Added ePub3 standard series embedding |

Good morning
Do I understand your statement correctly that you should edit the epub file yourself? Enter the series with index there? Greetings |

If you have calibre embed the metadata, the opf entries will be created. If you want the metadata in the copies in your library, you can use the Polish tool or ModifyEpub plugin. Otherwise, calibre embeds metadata when saving to disk or sending to device, In Preference, Saving books to disk has Update metadata in saved copies to disable this while Sending books to devices will update metadata.
No manual editing should be required. BTW, I am assuming that by export, you are saving to disk. And again, while MoonReader+ may handle calibre's series metadata, you will have to test with the ePub3 standard method to find out if MoonReader+ will be able to use that information if you have any ePub3 books.
