I really hate this. Marvel has always been my favorite, and Disney has a history of fucking things up. I hope they try to have a hands off approach like they've been doing with Pixar after they left the flock.

I will duly remind us all that Disney bought another popular brand years ago... the Muppets... and drove them into the ground nose-first.
On the other hand... I'd pay money to see a computer-animated Avengers movie... or better yet, the Ultimates, complete with alien invaders... |

Disney must be pretty confident in their perpetual copyright extensions if they're paying $4 billion. [said with pinky finger sticking in corner of mouth]

Well, as things stand, it'll be eons before any of the copyrights expire under current law. Most of marvel is from the '60s or the '70s, and has quite a bit that is newer. Current copyright life on works for hire is a 120 years from date of creation. I think they'll make that money back many times over in the 80-90 years they have left.

Woot is all over this:
Marvel/Disney Crossovers We're Looking Forward To Power Man vs. Uncle Remus: The righteous fists of Luke Cage stand ready to drop a slaveship’s worth of pain on The Man’s favorite sharecropper – until a wise bluebird reminds him that we’re all brothers under the skin. Black Panther vs. The Lion King: When Wakanda goes to war with the Pride Lands, only one big cat can be left standing in the circle of death! The two-pawed battle epic that shook a continent! I admit they've not really done anything with the Muppets since then. Apart from a single film. |

It'll be interesting to see the effect this has on Universal Studios. They have an entire island in the "Islands of Adventure" that is themed around Marvel Superheroes. I wonder how long the Universal license will last. It may open the door for DC/Superman/Batman ???

Why all the Disney hate? Disney owns ABC, ESPN, Touchstone, Pixar and alot of other brands that are outside of the traditional G - Rated Disney Studios.

Oh, we just like to pick on them because of their perpetual copyright extension acquisitiveness.
Those crossovers were great! But they forgot Namor vs Ariel: Water War One! Atlantis against the Gods! Ancient nautilus against sentient sandcrabs! Fishes of fury!* The blood will flow like water... who will end up in Davy Jones' locker? All of 'em! Imperius Rex! *Sorry... couldn't resist that one!... Yeah, disney is pretty much the reason copyrights are as long as they are now.

Disney also came up with the limited-play DVD. Remember how well that went over? |

I just wonder what happens next. Disney has been successful in acquiring Pixar. Hope that will also be the case with Marvel now.

I predicted marvel would get bought out...although I didn't think it would be by DIS because of the poor fit between the 2 worlds. in fact, i thought if disney acquired them it could actually potentially destroy the Marvel. hahha. but, disney has shown it can be hands off from a creative point...e.g. Miramax.
