Smashwords and Amazon

Hey, I was playing around in my affiliates panel and noticed that apparently Amazon and Smashwords have come to an agreement allowing Smashwords books on Amazon. However, it says that they're still working on technical integration. Any ideas on how soon that'll be, or is it the old fashioned "it'll happen when it happens" answer? Just curious because Amazon integration with Smashwords will simplify my ebook handling down to one store, one location, one upload. IE, I won't have to go to BN or Amazon directly to make my stuff available, which is what I want. I like the way Smashwords does most of their stuff.

It has been at that state for a long long long time.

Personally, Smash is too slow so I will likely always do KDP direct even if they ever get that working.

It's still a matter of "it'll happen when it happens." I think Smashwords is willing to distribute everything to Amazon, but Amazon only takes a few ebooks at a time.

I'm stilling letting SW do my distribution, but I am giving the new Kobo self-pub service a try.

Well, right now my publisher handles all my Amazon stuff, but in time I might leave them to handle just my print books and I'll handle the ebooks through KDP as some others are doing. Of course, if Amazon finally clears the road for Smashwords to post books in bulk on their site, then I'll just forgo all that.

I currently publish to Smash, and Amazon for ebooks. I am considering publishing direct to B&N in addition. The big prob, IMO, with Smash is the large lead time with changes/corrections/new releases. It can take 1-2 months from when you get your book on Smash, till it shows in Apple, B&N, and etc. That is assuming there are no problems. With KDP it is usually less then 48 hours.

And I am currently using Create Space for my print books since I do not have a publisher.

I'm in the same boat, I use Amazon's KDP for the Kindle and Smashwords for everyone else. I too have considered going to B&N directly since it's a slight increase in royalties (with Smashwords taking its cut I get 60% from affiliate sales from B&N, as opposed to 70% if I'd published with B&N directly). But mostly it's the hassle of having to learn the ins and outs of a new submission system. One of the things I like about Smashwords is that it gets my material into a bunch of stores without a lot of hassle. I agree that it is slow, however. My B&N sales reports on Smashwords are only up to date through May 31.
