ABBYY FineReader (AKA - "created first ebook")

In this thread I talked about the fact that with ABBYY OCR software "you can automatically separate the two pages and orient them properly."

Bob Russell asked, "How did you do this with ABBYY?" Here's how.
  1. First I used version 8.0 of ABBYY. Version 6.0 does not have this capability. Don't know about version 7.0.
  2. You can do this manually from the "Image" drop down menu after scanning (see first picture below) Note the faint horizontal blue line at the center between pages.
  3. Or you can do it automatically from the "tools" drop down menu (see second image below)
  4. The next two images are the before and after image rotation. Again this can be done automatically or manually.
  5. The final image shows the "Crop" capability after scanning. This must be done manually for each scanned image. However it allows cropping off the page numbers quite nicely.

Hope this answers "How I did that."

Looks very straightforward, and is a great tip for ABBYY users! It would also seem to indicate that the OpticBook scanner can be used either as 1page/scan or 2page/scan depending on how flat you can press the book down, or how fragile the book is.

Thanks much!

You should really call the program FineReader, since ABBYY also makes several other programs not related to OCR.

You're right igorsk. Since I only have the OCR, I've slipped into lazy communication about FineReader.
Thanks for the catch.
