Can Japanese Kindle be used in English?

I've never owned a Kindle, and am now tempted by a local sale of
"Model: 905A [Kindle PaperWhite 2 (2013) WiFi (Japan)]"
Photo below. Supposedly old stock, still boxed, from Japan.

Am I correct that it can be switched to use English?

By a normal system setting, or is some hacking/rooting involved?

I am using Oasis and Paperwhite 3 bought in Japan, both have option of menu in English.

If it's new in box, there's no problem. It'll ask you what language you want to use when you turn it on for the first time. If it's not new, you'll probably need someone who can read Japanese to figure out where the "Select Language" menu option is.

If it happens like Harry says, you can also find someone who knows Chinese, they will understand as well.
The other option is to find someone who also has a Kindle and compare.

OK, I was just concerned there was some kind of region locking to stop grey market sales.

All kindles support Simplified Chinese UI too.
