Thumbs up Free (Kobo/iTunes/DRM-free) Fury [NA Sci-Fi Dystopian Mystery Adventure w/Romance]

Fury: Omnibus Edition by Australian author Charlotte McConaghy (ISFDB) is the 1st in her The Cure series of YA-compatible New Adult future sci-fi dystopian action mystery adventures with strong f/m romantic elements, centred around the premise of mandated drug-induced emotional suppression and a young woman who is apparently unaffected by such, becoming a periodically violent threat to others, and thus has to undergo the obligatory discovery of the terrible truth which may not be what it seems, free courtesy of publisher Pan Macmillan Australia's Momentum imprint who are collecting it from its novella serialization.

Apparently, this has a mildly unusual tripartite protagonist/maybe-antagonist POV structure involving flashbacks unraveling the mystery of what's really going on, and the blurb also likens it to the popular Divergent YA SF dystopia series (Wikipedia), although the customer reviews say it's a perfectly cromulent adult-level book and seems to be actually aimed at that age range despite the initially late-teens heroine, while still being a YA-friendly read.

It's also being freebied to promote the upcoming omnibusing of the 2nd-in-series, Melancholy, which was also originally out as serial novellas and is slated for a combined release in July.

Currently free @ Kobo & iTunes (both available to Canadians, and DRM-free at Kobo), and directly from the publisher's webstore (DRM-free ePub/Mobi bundle available worldwide). Price-drop check linkage for B&N (also UK) & Amazon (usually available to Canadians & in the UK) & Google Play, where this will no doubt eventually show up as Momentum freebies often do.

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because interesting-looking sfnal stories get automatic bonus points, and ones that actually seem to pay attention to the long-term societal consequences of their setup while also doing a bit of experimenting with their storytelling structure seem doubleplus good.

Enjoy!

Description
Perfect for fans of Divergent, this series is about a civilization where negative emotions have been erased, creating a world of mindless drones where only those with fury can survive.

Eighteen-year-old Josephine Luquet wakes up naked and covered in blood on the same day every year when the blood moon is full. Josi has not responded to the Cure an immunization against anger mandated by the government and believes herself to be a threat to others.

Then she meets Luke. Luke has had the Cure but seems different from the other “drones” and he’s dead set on helping Josi discover the truth about herself before the next blood moon.

But time is running out. Is Luke willing to risk his life to be near her? Does he truly understand what violence she is capable of?

Raw and full of passion, Fury is a story of love in a dystopian world, and how much we are willing to forgive in the struggle to remember our humanity.

That does sound interesting. The publisher's web store doesn't ask for a credit card for this purchase. And the books are DRM-free. That's, like, the holy trifecta of e-book impulse buying. :-)

Thanks, ATDrake!
