Given that the other 'color schemes' (deuteranomaly, etc) are for forms of color blindness, it would seem obvious that this "developer option" is to allow developers to see how their app would look on a monochrome display, or to color blind users, not to provide some strange and undocumented benefit to end-users with that display or disability (if it were the latter, it would be an accessibility option not a developer one).

Updating firmware from Linux

Just to say that, although the instructions all talk about performing the update from Windows, I've successfully managed to run it on my Max Carta from Linux (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) using the Linux version of MfgTools available from https://github.com/NXPmicro/mfgtools

A few points to note, but TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK:

(1) I had the update hang when I compiled using the default gcc 5.x ; using 4.8 seemed to work though (pass "CC=gcc-4.8 CXX=g++-4.8" as arguments to make when compiling).

(2) If you don't want to run the tool as root, you'll need udev rules as follows (there are two USB IDs for different stages, different to the ones required for Fastboot, ADB or USB mass storage):
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="15a2", ATTR{idProduct}=="0063", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="066f", ATTR{idProduct}=="37ff", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev"

(3) Usage of the command-line tool isn't well documented, but this is what I ran after compiling:

./mfgtoolcli -p 1 -o MaxCarta_2017-05-19_22-37_dev_0d4c523_user/ -c "MX6SL Linux Update" -l Android-EVK-SD

(4) The log file reports "Failed to initialize memory" and "Command Boot excute failed" at one point, but it seems the boot in fact succeeds as the rest of the actual update commands do proceed.

(5) At the end, the tool reports "Done" but does not exit until you press CTRL+C, and the device shuts down and no longer appears in lsusb at all. At this point you can disconnect and power on. As described for the update from Windows, this first boot will take a while!

Thanks for this solution without Windows. I like it. If it's working, it's better than an 'chroot' session with 'Wine'.

Hi All - M96 user - lacking 4.4

So it's been a few years since i booted this up.

Just found out the Play Store, some current installed apps, and installing new apps do not work most likely because I'm on standard Onyx Build Number 1.7.3 and Android 4.0.1

Does anybody have the file of firmware 1.8.3 or android 4.4 and upload to Drive or drop box so i can have this tablet become more functional? (tried looking online, all links are dead)

Thank you soo much!

Type: M96c | Variant: US | Build: 2015-09-02_14-51_1.7.3_14d2cbe

Help on M96 firm/OS - More than meets the Eye

I decided to re-post a question in another thread on getting up to date on how to update a m96. This Thread is more visible when google searching if anybody else runs into this.

Hi,
I found this section and I'm interesst in 4.4.4 for my Boox Kepler pro!
Who can give me any hints for trying to update Kepler Pro to 4.4.?
Now is it in 4.0.4. I tryed to update with the file from e-reader store to 4.4.4, it is stable and fast but for reading and using I have to use a magnifying glass for it, otherwise is not version 1.8.2..
Anybody have the update to 1.8.2 (or higher) under 4.4.?
Thanks a lot for all hints and files ;-)
Kind regards
Framorg

The files to update to android 4.4 and to revert, seem to be gone.

Hi,
Very thanks for your replay.
But in my asking from #111 and #113 I mean the "Boox Kepler Pro" with 4.0.4 or better with 4.4.4 android version.
Only for this I searched new firmware.
Thanks for all hints and tips
