Minor nit. You need to download the file in the Kindle App on your PC or Mac. You do not need to open it. See the discussion about Kindle 1.25.2 on Mac where opening an .azw file replaces it with a .kcr file which is not usable by calibre in the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 and KFX in calibre thread/sticky.
