What file in the archive did you put at the top of visible, USB, storage?

No, you do not need python to install anything.
Keyboard devices still use Amazon's built-in installer.

Another possibility (in addition to wrong file and/or wrong place):

All packages here with a name in the form of:
update_*.bin
are model locked.

If the package is not intended for your kindle model, the 'update' function will remain grayed out.

That should have been named:
update_contrast_0.2_install.bin

Did the PC you are using remove the ".bin" extension, or try to change the binary file into a text file?

This add-in is not packaged for your model of Kindle:
Code:
DX $ kindletool convert --info update_contrast_0.2_install.bin
Checking update package 'update_contrast_0.2_install.bin'.
Bundle FC02 (OTA [ota])
Bundle Type OTA V1
MD5 Hash 0222de2c940c4231317512d44bdfe885
Minimum OTA 0
Target OTA 4294967295
Device Kindle DX Graphite
Optional 0
Padding Byte 0 (0x00)
That means that KindleTool was passed the option:
--device dxg
for the Kindle DX Graphite when the package was created.

If it is intended to work on all DX models (and I think that it is), then the option should have been:
--device kindledx
which is an alias for the dx, dxi & dxg models.

If you are brave enough to try it on your DXI, then just re-package the package (the KindleTool in NiLuJe's snapshots will take it apart and put it back together for you).
There are instructions posted here on how to do the re-package dance, search for them.

No, what you need to do is follow my directions to view NiLuJe's snapshot thread.
There you will find copies of KindleTool already built for all common operating systems, in addition to Linux.

I have no interest in modifing my Kindle DXI -
Why don't you try it?

Why didn't you convert it to a compressed archive rather than extract all the files like you did?
You could have then used KindleTool to repackage that exact same compressed archive without any chance of something going wrong with its contents.

And why didn't you use the options I posted should have been used? ( --device kindledx )

You don't need any scripting, the process is only two commands, one of which I already posted for you (with the addition of --info - so take the "--info" option out).

KindleTool has built-in help.
just type its name on the command line, without any arguments.

like this:
"kindletool create ota --device dxi update_contrast_0.2_install.bin update_contrast_0.2kindledxi1_install.bin"

if i write command --device kindledx, kindletool answer:
Invalid number of supported devices (3) for this update type (OTA V1).

Спасибо большое! Вроде немного читать легче стало.
