how to convert to azw files ?

hello my daughters are buying me a Kindle wi-fi e-reader for christmas and i have looked it up and it says it uses azw files,i tried to convert my books on Calibre because all mine are pdf but i cannot see azw,will it be ok to convert to mobi files prc and will kindle be ok with them ?

Yes. AZW is just Mobi with another layer of DRM.

Mobi is short for Mobipocket.

Calibre won't convert .azw files that have DRM on them. It will however, convert any .azw file without it so keep that in mind.
