unzip k3's KindleDeviceServicesShasta-1.0.jar

Now is the most technical part of this patch.
find the string A3P5ROKL5A1OLE in binary file
com/amazon/kindle/kindlet/internal/portability/b/d.class
replace it with the device type number of your device
for example:
miranda(DXG):A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
(I don't know a good way to find out this number of your device, but
see /var/log/messages or google "Device Type (device_compatibility_browse)" may help)
then overwrite the shasta keyboard json file by the json file of your device.
for example, DXG users should cp miranda.keyboard.json shasta.keyboard.json
finally,
zip back the k3 jar files and find a way to replace the jar file on your kindle.

Every Word and KindleNote are tested and work fine on my DXG (with a chroot 3.2.1 framework).

I have successfully got 3.2.1 on KDX. When I use the improved browser for some webpages with drop down menu, I can't use 5-cursor key to move up or down to select the choice in the drop down menu. Anybody with similar problem? I can select it when I was still in 2.5.8

This is one of the examples of website that I have encountered

open source version of k3 directfb does not contain proper key code mapping for DX's up/down keys.
I guess this is the root of issue. I have patched this for DX in my open source project. Using libdirect* shared library in the binary release of my project as replacement might just work. But it is a long shot.

I can not release the jar or even the patch because of the copyright issue.
(because the patch will contains DXG material)
The best I can do is something like yifanlu's k3 updater, merge the files from k3 and dx files provided by the user.
So I guess the patch should be better integrated into yifan's updater.

However, if you are
1 using 3.2.1 firmware on DXG,
2 can ssh to your kindle
3 have a copy of DXG's jar files.
I will provide the patch once I have the access to a real computer.

I already have the 3.2.1 firmware on my kindle DXG. I haven't sshed to my kindle, but i can do it if needed. thanks a lot.

The attached file is the script.
To try it

unzip deviceHack.zip at /mnt/us (the root directory of kindle usb driver). So that deviceHack/ and documents/ are in the same directory.
ssh to your kindle and type /mnt/us/deviceHack/runme

Kindle GUI will stop and restart. If everything works fine, then you are able to see and run your active contents. (Make sure your kindle's system time is corret, If not, turn on 3g to sync the time.)
The change is only temporary. So If things goes really wrong, Kindle will eventually reboot itself and back to normal.
If you want to make the change permanent, type
/mnt/deviceHack/runme install
NOTE:
This script will patch better if 2.5.8 files are provided, you can either put

KindleDeviceServicesTN-1.0.jar under /mnt/us/deviceHack
or rootfs.img under /mnt/us/output/ (generated by yifanlu's updater)
or rootfs.img under /mnt/us/deviceHack/

(only need to put one of the 3 files, the script will only use one of them)
then run the script runme.

I got the active contents listed at the home screen at last. But i still get the "a problem occurred blabla" message. Will try some more.

EDIT: An error occured opening the title. That's all i can get. I put the rootfs.img into the deviceHack folder but nothing changed. Btw i launched the script via the launcpad, the reset occurs, then the homescreen shows the active contents. But you can't actually play them.

I followed a few tutorials about SSHing to kindle DX but i couldn't succeed. I use win 7 64 bit and the drivers i loaded couldn't establish usb network i guess. Hope more people test this thing.

if the kindle rebooted the patch must have run ok via launchpad, i had a look at the source code and restarting the framework is the last line of code. i guess there's a problem with only one part of the patch if you can now see the active content.

keep us informed. i feel bad but i want to see how you get on before applying the patch myself
