I think this is the first Travis McGee title I've noticed go on sale for a second time, at least since I started watching for these a few years ago. The Scarlet Ruse is now on sale for $1.99, so if you didn't buy at $2.99, now you have another chance, at a better price.

Links below are still good...

The Scarlet Ruse is the 14th in the Travis McGee series by John D. MacDonald. It's on sale for $2.99. Travis McGee titles usually run $10 and up in the US (insane for backlist), so nice to see one on sale.

Murdering Americans is the 11th in the Robert Amiss/Jack Troutback series by Ruth Dudley Edwards. I've quite liked this series, except for the last two (of which this sadly is one), in which I felt Edwards pushed her politics (with which I mostly disagree) more to the forefront. Although I thought the earlier titles were excellent (see my previous post here), and I think this one is merely good, I'm going to post it anyway, since it has dropped to $3.43 at Kindle US, and the titles in this series usually sit at $6.49 and up. Just be warned that there's more political attitude in this one - and, of course, YMMV and you might agree with her politics anyway .

""Academia (n.): a profession filled with bad food, knee-jerk liberalism, and murder... Being a member of the House of Lords and Mistress of St Marthas College in Cambridge might seem enough to keep anyone busy, but Baroness (Jack) Troutbeck likes new challenges. When a combination of weddings, work, and spookery deprives her of five of her closest allies, she leaps at an invitation to become a Distinguished Visiting Professor on an American campus. With her head full of romantic fantasies inspired by 1950s Hollywood, and accompanied by Horace, her loquacious and disconcerting parrot, this intellectually-rigorous right-winger sets off from England blissfully unaware that academia in the United States is dominated by knee-jerk liberalism, contempt for Western civilization, and the institutionalisation of a form of insane political-correctness. Will the bonne viveuse Baroness Troutbeck be able to cope with the culinary and vinous desert that is New Paddington, Indiana? Can this insensitive and tactless human battering-ram defeat the thought-police who run Freeman State University like a gulag? Does she believe the late Provost was murdered? If so, what should she do about it? And will she manage to persuade Robert Amiss who describes himself bitterly as Watson to her Holmes and Goodwin to her Nero Wolfe to abandon his honeymoon and fly to her side?

The Ragman's Memory is the seventh in the really solid IMO Joe Gunther police procedural series by Archer Mayor. It is a US Kindle countdown at $0.99 for about one more day.

Quote:
A small girl brings Joe Gunther a bird’s nest—made partially of human hair. In the search to put a body, and an identity, to the hair’s owner, Joe comes upon an unexplained death, a grisly murder, and a sudden disappearance. All seem to be entangled in a puzzling web of municipal corruption, blackmail, and industrial espionage. A shell-shocked World War II vet nicknamed “The Ragman” may hold the key to it all, if Joe can get him to talk before the murderer strikes again.

“…by practicing his craft with dazzling skill and by digging for the deeper moral issues behind every grass-roots crime, [Archer Mayor] has made an honorable art form of the regional mystery.” —Marilyn Stasio, New York Times

Wow! If it gets much cheaper, it may be worth it to pick it up for the few titles I'm still missing in this series. At this point, I need to go count, and do the math...

August 1911. Emily Hardcastle and her inimitable lady’s maid Florence Armstrong are enjoying a fine summer until Harry, Lady H’s brother, turns up out of the blue with a mystery for them to solve.

A routine parachute test at a local aeroplane factory has gone horribly wrong—with pilot Dickie Dupree plummeting to his death. Harry is certain there is more to this ‘tragic accident’ than meets the eye, having discovered that someone at the airfield is leaking top secret intelligence to foreign rivals.

In between strolls to the Dog & Duck and planning for the annual village show, the daring duo dust off the Crime Board and go undercover at Bristol Aviation. With international powers investing heavily in aeronautics, the stakes are high—sky high—and the suspects soon mount up.

Can Lady Hardcastle find the culprit before someone else falls down dead?

And the author got a bunch of stuff right, like a nice layman's explanation of why airplanes take off into the wind, that enhanced my enjoyment. But I did also enjoy the characters and the plot. It is pretty cozy, but not overwhelmingly so IMO. So with these on sale, I may pick up a couple more and see if I like them even without the built-in bias. Thanks @Tarana!

The Second Mouse is the 17th in the Joe Gunther series by Archer Mayor, a series I've mentioned before I think is a pretty nice police procedural series. It is free right now at Kindle UK, but not at Kindle US, where it looks like a different edition (Mysterious Press) and it's $9.99. And where the description reads a lot like the description for Crocodile on the Sandbank, by Elizabeth Peters, and not like The Second Mouse. Odd...maybe he only has the rights back in the UK...

Now the second title in this series, The Ravens of Blackwater, has dropped to £1.90 at Kindle UK. The first title, The Wolves of Savernake, has also been on sale, at £1.49 for a while, so if you want to get the first three in the series to try, you can do it right now at pretty good prices. A Royal Pain is the second in the Lady Georgie/Royal Spyness series by Rhys Bowen. This is a cute/cozy series that is still a lot of fun, IMO. I look forward to new titles in this series whenever they come out. A Royal Pain has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.
