The Kindle has an excellent English dictionary: in fact, two of them; one British English, the other US English. Both are Oxford dictionaries and are extremely comprehensive.

I've found them, the UK English version at least, very good. Being an American with very good English skills, I use the UK version, finding it more useful as I'm weaker with some of the odd/old British terms I encounter in early 20th century British mysteries and such. |

The Sony also has good-quality UK (OED) and US English dictionaries, as well as dictionaries in several other languages.
