Troubleshooting Is Amazon preventing me from downloading?

I don't have any partial files at the moment, if I download a few at a time the system doesn't seem to jam up as much.

If the 2 files match and are full_title_asin.kfx and full_title_asin.sdr they're usually fine.

eg: A Garden of Stars_B0F2WRNY6J.kfx and A Garden of Stars_B0F2WRNY6J.sdr.

The incomplete downloads are usually only the asin with no title

eg: B0F2WRNY6J

If you sort by date rather than name, files might list as "today at 5:45 pm" "Jun 7,2025 at 6:29 am" or more oddly "tomorrow at 4:33 am"

If alot of files are still not showing on the kindle or opening even though the kindle thinks they're downloaded, I'll go in and delete the most recent and resend.

If it's only a few then I'll only delete those specific titles and resend.

I avoid the whole sided loaded book issues by using epubs and send to kindle combined with metadata plugboard so the author name loads in the current kindle sorting method.

But if I was going to side load to kindle I would do as recommend above, calibre > preferences > conversion > output options > mobi output > kindle options [ebok] vs [pdoc] .

Though I'd choose AZW3 output rather than mobi output and not have to mess with ebok vs pdoc.

But it's been so long since I've sideloaded books I'm probably forgetting steps.

pdoc stands for personal document and ebok stands for eBook. The declaration is in the header of the Kindle eBook. If it's pdoc, Amazon will not remove them. If it's eboc, then Amazon can remove them as you've seen. This is only an issue with side loaded eBooks.

You should convert all of those Mobi to Kf8 (AZW3) as you get more features on your Kindle such as you can use a font you've added to your Kindle.

How do I change the declaration in the header? Is this something that calibre can do? Or do I need another tool to do this? Does converting from Mobi to Kf8 do anything to prevent Amazon from removing books from the kindle?

Personally, I use a python script called ebook_cdetype_to_pdoc to take care of this.
