How to Organise Magazines
Is it possible to organize magazines as well and if so how. Plus is there a way to organize magazine based ebooks. I was wondering on how to organize ebooks and magazines if there is not much or any metadata at all. For example if the ebook is a cookbook from better homes and gardens and you want to organize them separately could you create a area called "Magazine>Ebook" and then ebooks such as "Ebook>Cookbooks", "Ebook>DIY" and so forth. I would need (3) categories (1) Ebook (2) Digital Magazine (3) Magazine>Ebook.
Plus I would like to make categories for the magazines. Is any of this possible if so please help me out with telling me how to do this. |

Moderator Notice I moved your post into its own thread. The thread you posted to was 4 years old. Calibre has changed in the intervening period. I keep magazines and periodicals in a separate library, I put the journal/magazine name (e.g. Vanity Fair) in Authors, and the issue identifier (2019-04) in Title - I appreciate its counter intuitive but it works for me. As BR indicated; Titles must be unique (the issue is the tie-breaker) or they can be treated as duplicates.
For sorting I use the series column in 2 variations: when issues have a (sequential) issue number, I use that [69] when issues have monthly or week dates, I use [yyyy.mm] or [yyyy.ww] <<you cannot do yyyy.mm.ww because this must be a floating point number |

I have 4 magazine subscriptions. I list them in Calibre in this order. As I recall, I had to import the Asimov's one at a time because Calibre saw them all as the same issue. That may not be true today. For Author, I just put the name of the Magazine. For tags, I list these as Science Fiction - Magazine.
Asimov's Science Fiction 2010 07 Asimov's Science Fiction 2012 01 Galaxy's Edge #02 Galaxy's Edge #37 Lightspeed #15 Aug 2011 Most of my cooking magazines have been pdf so I just keep those in a separate folder without installing into Calibre since I side load them directly onto a tablet. I do have a separate Calibre library for cookbooks - maybe you want to do that and include the magazines as well? Since my library is separate for cooking, I tag it as general, baking, decorate, and cooking. (I have a lot of cake decorating books/mags). Last edited by Tarana; 03-24-2019 at 11:59 AM. |
