Futrelle, Jacques: The High Hand. v1. 5 January 2012
Jacques Futrelle, creator of the S F X Van Dusen "Thinking Machine" detective stories, died on the Titanic in 1912. In addition to the many short stories featuring S F X Van Dusen, he wrote a number of shortish novels.
This 40,000 word novelette is set in an unidentified industrial city in an unidentified American State, and follows a young man into city politics as a corruption-buster. This work is assumed to be in the Life+70 public domain OR the copyright holder has given specific permission for distribution.
