New Kobo Libra 2 User and calibre concerns
Hi everyone, I am a happy new user of Kobo libra 2, after being faithful user of a Sony PRS T3 reader for many years (dead...)
I have a bast collection of ebooks that normally i keep in Dropbox and handle through Calibre. With the epub (original format) what I normally do is modify the metadata as I like and then I had some standard preferences for my Sony ereader that gave me an standard output for my collection. Now I am trying to get the same results with my new reader before sending the ebooks to my new kobo It is better to keep going with epub format or there is any format that addapts better to kobo? (just to notice that normally original format is epub 95% of the times...) I just realized on the first ebooks i sent to my new kobo that page number appears in text format on the right side of the screen randomly, any idea why this is happening? The original file format before transforming a file onto calibre i have it settle to predermined (as most of the files are epub), do you think the output preferred format with my kobo libra 2 should i set it to electronic ink generic high definition device as I realized the kobo output on calibre is settle to 736x510 devices and the libra 2 is 1264x1680 and 300ppp? Thanks for your time ! |

For the output profile select "tablet", that leaves the images unchanged.
The numbers on the right side are Adobe page numbers. They can be disabled in the reader settings. If you want to zoom in on the images, you had better use the kepub format instead of epub. The fastest way is to use the KoboTouch Extended Driver for that; that's a calibre plugin. It will convert your epubs to kepub on the fly when sending them to your Kobo. |

Though some ebooks as epub change image size as you change the font size on the GUI. Or else this is a change I didn't notice before.

This is not random. What is happening is that while the page size is fixed, the number of screens needed to display that page is variable. Depending on font size, line spacing etc. So it takes a number of screens to display a page. The page number is displayed on the last screen of the page.

But ePub (RMDK used to display ePub) has better typesetting and will look better. |

I'm not against epubs, I do read epubs exclusively on my Libra 2 (and kepubs on my Sage). Both formats have their pros and cons, so it's up to the OP to decide which they like better. |

I think i'll stick to epub as i think is much easier to use calibre for everything even to send the files to the reader...and calibre doesn't support kepub.
Thanks for the advices |

You don't need kepubs in Calibre to use them on your Kobo. You only need the KoboTouch Extended Driver. Your library will still have epubs; kepubs will only be on your reader.

But by default, KePub has no kerning, no ligatures, large spaces, no hyphenation, and sometimes funny spacing.

This gets rid of widows ad orphans and makes the screen more uniform. It does look better. Quote:
Another tip is the default hyphenation dictionary is not well configured. I've created come better hyphenation dictionaries. The directions on how to install are in the first post of the thread where the dictionaries are. The URL is https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=252405 |
