It takes 121minutes why failed three times to convert to mobi

When I try to convert a chm which have about thousands pictures into mobi, the system dumped 3 times and at last it succeed costing 121minutes...Does anyone have any idea to improve the performance?

I can see two reasons :
Original file is just too big. (if it have lots of images, well...).
Original file is malformed.
