Downloading news and sending them as peridocials to Kindle when MOBI is deprecated

When you want to download news with Calibre as a periodical (so that there is no navbar and the shortcut to skip to next article works), you need to set the prefered format to MOBI and a target as a Kindle.

Amazon is deprecating the MOBI format. I tried to send a downloaded periodical as MOBI and got an e-mail from Amazon telling me not to do that. However, the file got through to my Kindle (11) and when I opened it in USB mode, it turns out it was converted to POBI.

I am not sure how long this situation is going to last.

Are there any plans on Calibre's part to for example being able to generate POBI*files directly or support Kindle periodicals in some other way? Or am I doing something wrong?

Ok, so I found this: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...-of-mobi-files

That answers a part of my question. Also, the support for mobi is not taken rfom Kindles themselves, just from the e-mail service, so even when the e-mail service will stop supporting mobi, it will be possible to load them through USB.

And for some reason, Calibre cannot produce POBI files, it can only read them, so maybe using those instead would be major work.

Edit: I*wrote the above in the meantime when Kovid replied.
