Cain, Paul: Seven Slayers. v1, 27 Aug 2008

This is a collection of killers, cuties, and coppers, all tangled up in one great collection of noir-ish mystery. So hang onto your hat and hide your gat, ‘cause the streets are mean at night…and someone’s knocking on your door at this very moment…

Here’s two descriptions from the internet:

”This collection, holding some of Cain's finest work ever to appear in Black Mask, was first published in 1950. It opens, fittingly, with Black, an account of a mysterious stranger who winds up playing both sides following his macabre discovery in a nameless time. Also in the book is Parlor Trick, about beautiful Bella's fast-talking following the discovery of a corpse in her kitchen.”

And another one:

“If you're a fan of Hammett, Chandler, Thompson, Goodis, et al, you owe it to yourself to read anything you can get your hands on by Paul Cain. His characters live outside the law and in the depths of the Depression, and are invariably without hope or anything resembling a future. Someone always ends up dead, and deservedly so. These are not random or remorseless killings, though, they are full of passion and betrayal, and when some mug gets a belly full of lead you understand only too well why he had it coming. James M. Cain (no relation) was a powder puff compared to this guy. Highly recommended”

I hope you enjoy it. (If you like Paul Cain, there's available an additional title here on MobileRead.)
