Sure. Because he basically doesn't like writing the series any more. I just wish he would come right out and say it.

He also wouldn't have put of "Fire and Blood" in 2018. |

Sorry. I've read enough and seen enough to be convinced that his heart's just not in it any more (except for reveling in the spotlight created by the TV show, and its potential spinoffs). The writing started tanking after book three, so we're all probably better off in the long run anyway. ASoIaF is a TV show and an unfinished book series. |

I'm at the point where I don't care all that much. I've moved on to new writers.

I just finished reading his Complete dreamsongs, a collection of short stories where he talks a lot about them. It is quite evident that he gets bored easily with an idea and will drop a series just because. So I'm surprised he wrote as much GoT as he did...

I read the existing five books in 2011. I've seen the TV series. I've lost interest. Maybe if I run out of other things, but I will never run out of books to read even I never buy another one.

I read the first 3, couldn't finish the 4th, and never looked back. And I'd normally love a series of this kind: fantasy, long-running. But after the umptieth character I really liked died, I gave up...

GRRM is in such as weird position. He doesn't need the money. I don't think it matters to his legacy at this point whether he finishes the books. The fans are kind of over it after the TV show's disappointing ending. I know the books and the show diverged but he's also said they end up more or less in the same place. It all feels rather academic.

I have lost interest. I understand depression though. Like someone said, I'll read it if it is the end of the series.

Well, I haven't lost interest. I'd like to find the time to re-read the whole series before diving into the next book when it comes out - but I won't start too much in advance, because that would be running the risk of finishing before the book comes out.
(Plus, it will cost me some more money, because I got the first books as paper books, and now I probably couldn't stand to carry the weight around, so I'll buy them as ebooks) |

I'll reread the books I've read and all the others when the series is actually finished.

I'll read his next book when/if it comes out. I'll read the wikis on the previous books to refresh my memory.
