V3 taking too long to turn pages.

Hello everybody!

I've been using my V3 for the past two weeks, and I really love it. The Vizplex screen is a huge improvement over my old PRS-500.

However, I've noticed something that bothers me. I'm doing all my reading in .fb2 format, since almost everybody seemed to recommend it. But when I press the page turn button, the LED flashes for about a second and THEN changes the page. That's about 2 seconds for every page turn, maybe a bit more. It's noticeably slower than the PRS-500 and my girlfriend's PRS-505.

Please note I'm not talking about the screen refresh, but the time from the moment I press the button until I've the new page on the screen.

I've tried with several books and always got the same (disappointing) result. Has anybody noticed something like this? Any suggestion? (using other format, some option when I'm creating the books with Book Designer, trying a different firmware...)

Yes, this is true. Page turning time is about 2 seconds.
As I understood from the comments of the author of the FB2 plugin, it is the problem with the EInk display driver - for some unknown reason, it takes more then half a second after sending page to driver and before page flipping starts.

The only suggestion I can propose is to use native WOL format. It seems, that page turning is much faster with it (and there is great FB2->WOL convertor software, you can prepare a book with you favourite fonts). But as the disadvantages you'll get huge files without the possibility to change font size "On the fly".

Could it be the page flip is so disturbing, because the full screen inverts for a split second . I'm afraid this how vixplex works.

I usually press next page on the second to last line. Not that I do it consciously. But sometimes I end-up having to go back a page after missing a word. This will happen less now that I have set fb2 to use a serif font.

That's right, that's how Vizplex works. But my girlfriend's PRS-505 and my old PRS-500 do the same and it doesn't bother me nearly as much.

The problem is not the time the V3 uses to actually change the page, but the time it takes since I press the button until it starts to do it

Thank you, torbich. Do you know if some other format (html, rtf) has less problems with the display drivers? I don't like WOL format, as you said it lacks flexibility.
