I really wish they allowed us to use a cart for e-books.

I'd be happy with a confirmation screen that says something like "Are you sure you want to buy this book?" I also purchased books when trying to get a free sample. If you buy it online not through the Kindle there is no accidental purchase return link. You have to contact CS directly to get a refund.

The only time I've almost accidentally ordered is when I got a sample first. When I was done reading the sample, the last page had the "buy" button highlighted by default. Clicking on any of the usual buttons may have resulted in a purchase if I had the wireless on at the time.

I suspect the GUI was designed to facilitate impulse buying and accidental ordering :-( Otherwise, why not change it to ensure that buying the book MUST be deliberate?
And yes... I wish we could use a cart for e-books, too. But again, if the customer could see an overall total for multiple book purchases, that might inhibit their impulse buying. |

Yes, probably with the hope that the customer will buy the book accidentally and then just decide "well its done I might as well keep and read it".

Funny, I just read a blog post about how easy it is to accidentally buy an app from the new android store. If you touch the buy button while scrolling on your android phone, you bought it. Touch is waayyy more accident prone than point and click. Conveniently (for amazon) there is only one 1click setting for everything.
