Why are prices so high?
Why is it that prices on refubrished PW5 (11th Gen) are so high? On Amazon.com, a PW6 is going for $129 and a PW5 id going for $134.
In the UK, a certified PW5 is £116. These are crazy prices on a refurbished PW5 especially during Black Friday. |

Because they didn't bother the adjust the refurbished price when the PW6 went on sale. However, I agree; the price of the PW5 refurb is way too high (IMO) even compared to the list price of the PW6.

I cannot seem to find a PW5 at a reasonable price. They are all way too high. Someone I know is looking to get a Kindle as a gift and the prices are a lot high.

The 16gb compares to the new Paperwhite, so you’re in theory paying $5 more for the refurb. Plus, you can get 3 free months of KU with a new Kindle and potentially 20% off, if you’ve got something to trade in. It really doesn’t make sense. I think even at regular prices $135 isn’t enough of a discount.
And what screams at me about Kindle refurbs is that you don’t get a new battery. They charge it for you. So what exactly does “refurbished” mean? A charge and a bit of a wipe? It’s nuts. I think the BF price on the new Paperwhite is a heck of deal, especially with 20% off which knocks the price down to just over $100. And if KU is of value to you…. |

Is there a way on a non-jailbroken Kindle to get the battery stats to see how good (or not) the battery is? |

If you don't want new and are willing to look carefully at an item for scratches etc, unclaimed baggage always has a bunch of Kindle. Thrift shops and ebay and ebay like sites do too. As was pointed out to me, lots of people impulse buy e readers and if it doesn't live up to their expectations (to this day I have friends that think a Kindle is going to be like an Ipad) they get rid of it thru donation or self sale.

Local thrift shops not so much as you can return it. However, I see it being rather difficult to find a PW5 at a thrift shop. Also, you don't know the condition of the battery. You cannot ask the previous owner how good the battery is. IO just checked with Goodwill online and there are not PW5s. Also, you now have to bid instead of just buy. When I last bought from there, I just had to buy and not bid. Last edited by JSWolf; 11-26-2024 at 06:16 AM. |
