Just got a Kobo Sage. Have 2-3 questions.
My first Kobo. A Sage.
1. I set up Dropbox on the Sage. I used my PC to drag a doc to my Kobo folder in Dropbox. I synced the Sage...multiple times over 24 hours, but the doc never appears on the Sage. I opened up Dropbox on my phone, and the doc is listed under Kobo. On the Sage device, the PDF titled "How to add books to your..." says that once I sync, then the books and docs will appear under "My Dropbox". Then it says to download them and they will appear under My Books. The doc does not appear, so I cannot download it. 2. When the Sage is powered off, I can see the cover of the current book, or the doc "How to add Books to your..." that I had been looking at. I unchecked a box to get rid of that. If the cover or doc is showing on the Sage when it is shutdown, isn't it using battery to display that cover or doc? Even when I unchecked the box, it shows "powered off". Isn't it still using battery? Have I set something up wrong? 3. Where is a manual to the Kobo? I have all my books on Calibre, but have no idea what I should do next? Add plugins? Sideload books? I have no idea how to sideload or which plugins I need. Obviously, user error. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Last edited by pypeke; 11-24-2024 at 04:48 PM. |

I think this question was answered elsewhere but place the content in the Apps/Rakuten Kobo folder to have them available to be synced to your Sage.
And remember that eInk is a bistable media. Once the screen has been set, it takes no power to maintain. Unlike LCD which requires continuous power, eInk only requires power to rewrite the screen so the sleep/power off screen takes no power. The image that one person once used was to think of an eInk screen as tiny bits of paper, white on one side and black on the other. Flipping the bits of paper takes energy but once flipped, they just sit there. Last edited by DNSB; 11-24-2024 at 05:08 PM. |

ANother question.
Sometimes the page rotates when I set the Sage down, but it does not turn back when I pick up the device again. I have to turn the device to match the screen. I have checked the box Auto Rotate. Currently looking at the device with buttons on the right. The screen is turned to the left (buttons on top to see the screen correctly.) If I turn the device and hold it with buttons on the bottom, it will rotate. It will not rotate if I put the buttons on the left or right side. When it says "sleeping", "sleeping" is on the bottom with buttons on the right. |

The files in the Dropbox folder are not synced automatically. Go to the More menu and then My Dropbox. This will then list what books are in the Dropbox folder and you can select which one(s) to load.

Ok. I put the doc in a folder called Kobo, not in the APP called Rakuten Kobo. It works now. All of this is new to me. Have always had Nooks and tablets. Thank you. Now where is a manual on sideloading ? Which plugins? |

No plugins needed. Calibre's built in driver supports Kobo. Now of course you will get the fanboy's chiming in that you have to convert to kepub and use Kobo Touch Extended; my advice is KISS and keep to the basics at first.
Now I would suggest an an optional plugin do add Kobo Utilities and at least configure it to take backups of the Kobo database on each connection Sent from my Pixel 7a using Tapatalk |

As PeterT said, at first just connect your Kobo to Calibre and send a book over. Eject, wait until the Sage has processed the book (you'll see it on the screen) and unplug. Nothing more is needed. Once you're more familiar with your Kobo and how it handles your books, you may want to change something; but no need to complicate things until you've tried to just read a book.

So, I just want epub books to go to Kobo? No need for kepub? I have novels only, unless a Sci fi book has a map or something that I might zoom in on to read it. This Sage is tiny! "Add Kobo Utilities and at least configure it to take backups of the Kobo database on each connection." I have no idea what that means, why I need it, or what it does. Someone suggested to look for a couple of your posts, #19 or 20, but I don't know where to find them. I have read hundreds of posts since yesterday, but I don't know the EASY way to find your posts without reading every single post on this forum. I see why people continue to buy Kindles because it is frustrating trying to find BASIC information for beginners on how to use Kobos. |

Don't I need to convert it or something? I ran Quality Check > epub structure. |
