We used to have a custom fastboot utility to handle the weird-ass iMX fastboot, (c.f., the serial debricking thread), but I'm not sure this'll apply here...

yes I have tried kindle fastboot https://github.com/TobiasWooldridge/Fastboot-Kindle

fastboot -s G000K90NNNNNNNNN setvar bootmode main

Looks like this kindle has to go under the knife...lemme order some USB/UART converter from Amazon.

I was thinking tonight we play with kernel boot via fastboot , like in android world.. but fun ends here.

It runs Android OS.

Images of that device from China show it looks nearly identical to the kindle basic 8th gen

With aim to flash kernel and rootfs on KT3 extracted from your comment.. I ran kindletool.
Code:
$ kindletool extract Downloads/update-kindle-6.0.3_user_603479820.bin  Downloads/KindleBasic2_KT3/Firmwares/china
Extracting update package 'Downloads/update-kindle-6.0.3_user_603479820.bin' to 'Downloads/KindleBasic2_KT3/Firmwares/china'.

Unknown update bundle version!
Error converting update package 'Downloads/update-kindle-6.0.3_user_603479820.bin'.

@kapaggar: Huh. I'll try to take a look at it, but I have tremendous issues accessing anything amazon.cn, so that may get tricky...

EDIT: Got it through my build box. I guess my ISP is getting sneaky...

EDIT²: Well, that was easy.

You should not have to fiddle with DIY commands, I posted a backup script here that will do all (or the portions you select), including the matching kernel images.
(and unlike geekmaster's script, mine actually tests the kernel image for correctness using u-boot tools.)

Note that I personally like piping dd to netcat because it bypasses the Kindle's storage .

There are few errors probably being reported by your script in KT3.
Could be due to kernel and diag kernel offsets different in this device ??

here is the full log.. should I post this in the main thread of this tool too ?
