Man, it gets harder and harder, as you age, getting fit. I used to be able to leather up in 2-3 weeks and be in pretty good shape inside of 12-16 weeks. Now? Christ, it'll be a miracle if I'm "fit" by my standards by NEXT June. (sigh) Hitch |

Sitting down, taking a bit of a break.
I've got a torn meniscus in my right knee, but I've been favoring it so much that my left knee and lower back are sore, too. *Grumble!" |

Working on my to-watch list on Netflix. I've just started watching the 2013 film The Colony. After that I might watch some stand up comedy.

I finally heard when I'm going to house sit and look after dog Luca. It's probably going to be from 23 July until 13 August, my friends are booking today. It's very late for them, they usually book in early January. But I suspect there was some disagreement over how they were going on vacation; take the caravan to France or Spain or fly to an all inclusive resort.
Dog Luca isn't doing well. She's been having health problems for a while now, but it got worse in the past four months. She has been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, though the vets can't further narrow it down. She's also been diagnosed with irritable bowl syndrome. Because of the IBS she's only allowed to eat special diet food and as snacks cucumber and banana. The auto-immune disease is more problematic. The last I've heard is that every time they find medicine that works it only works for a little while before the problems return. She also has to wear a cone all day, except for on walks. Several times in the past months they had decided to have her euthanized, because she was in so much pain, but the vet kept talking them out of it and trying some other medicine. She now has to go to the vet every two weeks, which is going to be a problem. I haven't got a driver's license and it's too far to walk with a sick dog. Also, I work, four days a week I work from 10am until 2pm and on Saturday from 10am until 5pm. And Luca doesn't like being alone and I'm worried that it might worsen her health. So before they go we need to have a talk about how to handle things if there is a problem with Luca. It all makes me rather nervous. |

I'm a pet owner and animal lover, but I think that they are asking rather a lot of you, given the dog's precarious health situation. What do they expect you to do, if the dog has a very sudden turn for the worse, sans car, etc.? I don't blame you for being nervous, I don't. I think I'd also have some choice words for that Vet. Responsible vets don't try to prolong the life of an animal that sounds like he's suffering, just to "try" this or that medication. Don't mean to go all judgy; perhaps the dog isn't suffering, but that's not what it sounds like. Hitch |

But it looks like Luca is doing better. The bi-monthly visit are mostly for an exam and a refill of her prescriptions. They'll make sure they get enough pills for the vacation. It all started with her licking her privates more than raw and it not healing even when she wore her cone all day. Her privates have now healed, so I hope she won't have to wear the cone all day. She still has infections inside of her and she's got pills for those. The biggest problem at the moment is eating. She's allowed her diet food, apples (not bananas) and cucumber. She hates cucumber, she likes apples, but she doesn't like her diet food. She's incredible stubborn and doesn't eat enough, she's lost 7kg already, poor thing. I agree with you on the vet. At one point it hurt Luca to walk, and they were sure it was time for her to be put out of her misery. But they were persuaded by the vet to try something else. You would almost think he does it for the money; a visit every two weeks, test, medicine, etc. The vet did the same with their previous dog, who had a swollen back leg and even the veterinary department of the university (best in the country) couldn't figure out what it was. At least she wasn't in pain for most of the time and when she was and they couldn't find anything that helped they did euthanize her. It's not a good vet. Now we're spoiled with our vet (who retired last year), who came back from a convention at the other side of the country so that he was the one to euthanize one of our cats who had a brain hemorrhage. |

Looking at Christmas themed scrapbook papers. I've already got an idea what I want my Christmas cards to look like this year. And I'm planning to order the supplies before I go house sitting, so I can start working on them during those weeks. However, I always plan to start early and by late November I'm in a panic and spend two full days to make all the cards.
I've also found a die to cut a nice present shaped gift card holder, which can not only be used for Christmas but throughout the year for birthdays. |

I have had both of my knees surgically repaired. I blew the left one out, and then I put so much strain on my right one during the rehab for the left, that I had to get it fixed too. I make magical creaking sounds when doing squats, lunges, and burpees. |
