I hold my Kobos equally with the left and right hand (switching between them). When I start my reading session, I almost always do it with the left and I haven't noticed the upside-down issue you described. Unless by powering on you meant literally powering on and not merely awaking from sleep - I never power off my Kobos, I just put them to sleep.

I tried it just now and it didn’t make any difference. But thanks for the suggestion.

OK this might actually be a solution. I do literally mean powering on, from off, and not waking from sleep. Putting it to sleep as you do and never having it power off seems to bypass the issues. Thanks!

Oh, another slight issue; downloadning a 75 MB Comic from my Google drive resulted in the reader freezing/becoming unresponsive. I had to reset it with the page turn + power off buttons. 200 MB in upload and download speed ought to be sufficient, I would think. (Apologies for turning this into a support post).

I too am left-handed, and I have the same"have to flip it first" issue with both my Sage and my Libra H20. I setup my wife's new Libra Colour yesterday and noted the same thing. I've been doing it for so many years now, it no longer bothers me - it's just part of the power-on ritual.

One thing I will say about the Sage is that I do not think it was "designed to used with a power cover". I think the power cover was cynical marketing ploy to address the Sage's weak battery life. That said, by leaving WiFi off, I can easily get through a day's reading without charging, then leave it charging while I sleep. As I only use it at home, it's never in its case, and I find the weight tolerable. For all its weak points, it remains my number one reader, and having seen (and been impressed by) my wife's Libra Colour, that ain't gonna change soon. I fact, if I do get a new reader soonsih, it will be a new Sage, to see if a brand new one has a stronger battery than my 4-year old model.

Aye, there is a difference - orientation is remembered when sleeping, not when powered down

I got a Kobo Libra Colour a little over a month ago. I upgraded from the Kindle Paperwhite SE. For me, color wasn't the main draw. The main thing I wanted was something to take notes on. I had tried a Rocketbook for a while, but the handwriting recognition in the software was subpar, and it was just a hassle to have to scan all my documents and send them to Google Docs. The KLC has filled that niche nicely, and the color is an added bonus for things like newspapers and magazines with Calibre.

Waiting for the technology to improve.

I see virtually no reason to stick to B&W if color had the identical sharp contrast. If that ever happens (I don’t see how, but still…) I will switch. My entire use of an eReader is reading novels, color would only be used for cover images and gallery view, that’s why I am not willing to compromise even just a little bit on contrast, or resolution for such a small benefit.

There’s also KOReader, which I use as my main reader. Even if this magical new device appeared on the market, I would wait for the open source community to catch up. I’m not willing to give up KOReader for color.

I bought the Kobo Clara Colour and the colours on it are not the greatest. It’s ok for reading indoors but when I tried to read it on the bus in sunshine it was a failure. So I got the BW since I wanted a new device and it is much better. Good in any lighting or outdoors and very sharp text and easier on the eyes.

THIS! As much as I enjoy seeing the colour covers on my wife's Libra Colour, I love KOReader much more. I've tried KOReader Android a couple of times on wo different tablets, and the experience was suboptimal, so I'm back to my Sage for the foreseeable future.
