An intringuing book from neglected author Maurice Maindron (1857-1911) more famous for his historical novels where the action takes place in the troubled times of 16th century France.

The book contains a collection of letters written to a close friend during the author's last visit (1901) to former French possessions in southern India on the Coromandel coast and around the town of Pondichéry. As indicated by Maindron himself in the book's preface he decided against reworking or embellishing the material for literary purposes and chose to present the letters untouched in their original form when he published them five years later (1906). An interesting read by all means because not much is known about the life and times of Maurice Maindron.
