Kindle 3: brickable, or unbrickable?

The question is: is there a procedure for restoring a Kindle 3 to working order using just standard hardware that will always work, whatever has been done to the Kindle with software?

If so, what is the procedure?

I read somewhere the claim that the Kindle is unbrickable because it has a basic bootloader that can't be overwritten. However, I might have misunderstood and the claim may have been referring to an earlier model of the Kindle.

Edmundo,
U-Boot accessible via serial line. You must have 1.8v USB(COM)<->Kindle adapter to access it. If you'll get access to Kindle console, you can unbrick it.

You need to have a full backup of your Kindle before doing anything as the firmware releases for the K3 aren't full images. They're just patches from a previous version of the firmware unlike some of the earlier releases for the old Kindles.
