Update error: need original start.sh file from 3.0.3
Hello all
Im trying to update my kindle software and have a problem. I have previously made changes to the file /opt/amazon/ebook/bin/start.sh (a LONG time ago), and cannot find my original version of the file. Can anyone provide me with a copy of this file please? The md5 of the required version is ec8a3c560209d8c89cd2dd23da25e837 The kindle is a UK Wifi Kindle 3 currently running 3.0.3, but i expect that the file will be the same for most 3.0.x versions. Alternatly, does anyone know of a way to make the update work without this file being the correct md5? The update log is giving the following error: 120210:233934 ota_install: I defatchatchinfo="/opt/amazon/ebook/bin/start.sh"atching file 120210:233934 ota_install: C defatchatchinfo="/opt/amazon/ebook/bin/start.sh":checksum failure 120210:233934 ota_install: I defatch:current_md5=6cb6039b0be5140ee8b26f68e1ad 84f0,expected_md5=ec8a3c560209d8c89cd2dd23da25e837 ,patch_md5=702b23872bc1fe0215cad4490c0a822d:checks um verify 120210:233937 system: E otaup:def:image update failed Thanks Adam |

The Python script in most of the Jailbreak packages can decrypt those images and the archive images that are contained inside (to several depths of nesting as I recall). After decryption, what you have will be a gzip'd tar archive which your standard tools can handle. |

Thanks for the reply.
I have downloaded the update (3.0.2 and 3.0.3), and extracted the file and the contents to get to the actual patch files and scripts, and unfortunatly, it looks like start.sh is patched either in these updates, or included as a complete file. Anyone got a dump of this file for any 3.x version that they could send me please? Thanks Adam |

Many thanks!
That enabled me to recover the original file. I applied the kindle update patch to modified file from my kindle. I made a patch for the resulting file compared with your file, and then applied this patch to the file on my kindle, and out came a file with the correct md5. Gotta love patches! Adam |

Thanks should then go to Colin Percival who wrote it for FreeBSD.
