Import OS modify date while Adding books?

Anyone know of a way to import the OS file modify date into "Date" or a custom column while Adding?

I haven't been using the default ModifiedDate column but assume it reflects when any changes are made to the db rather than the file, and that it wouldn't show the file's OS modify date?

Are you asking that calibre set some date to the modtime of the source format (the one outside calibre's library) when you import a book? Your second sentence implies something else -- that you want to see the modtimes of a format inside calibre's library. Perhaps you mean import a format? Or something else?

In the Mac OS there is a created date and a last-modified date for a file. I'm asking if there is a way to automatically capture the file's last-modified date (the one indicated in the OS) during an Add books, and put that date into an appropriate column. Not the date of calibre-import. Not the date the metadata for that book was last modified in calibre. I mean the actual date the original source-file out in the OS was last modified.

So either you have only one format per book or you want the date of the last format you added? But this doesn't matter, really.

I assume the date is from the file (the format) that you are importing, not the date of the format inside calibre's library. If so, then the answer is 'maybe'. Looking at the code, I see that adding a format via the edit metadata (single) dialog sets the modtime of the format in calibre's library to the modtime of the file being added. You can get that modtime using the template function formats_modtimes. If the book has more than one format, you would need to know which format you are interested in.

As far as I can tell, adding a book + format using the add function does not set the modtime in this way.

chaley, thanks for the clarification. I didn't think there was a way to do extract that info in a bulk Add, but wanted to make sure.

Yes, the last-modified date of the file (format) being imported, not the date the file (format) was copied into calibre.

Re the one format per book, that was my other thread-question asking if there was a way to do one-format-per-book during a bulk add. Re different mod-dates for each format in a record with multiple formats: yes, that is one problem.

Re template function " formats_modtimes " -- thanks, I'll look into that.
