default format for "send to device"

I'm just moving from a Nook to a Kindle and I'm wondering if there is a way to force Calibre to always send the AZW3 format. I know I can use submenu and select "send specific format" but I'd like to set a default format.

The formats that can be sent to a device are in the device configuration. You can get to this from the plugins page in the preferences, or from the menu of the device button when it is connected. There will be a list of formats. The ones the device allows will be checked. Uncheck any you don't want to use. And you can change the order. If you have multiple formats for a book, the format closest to the top will be used.

The easiest way to get to the configuration screen is to connect the device, right click the "Device" icon on the toolbar, and select "Configure this device" from the pop-up menu. Select the "AZW3" format and use the arrows to move it to the top of the list.

Pleased to hear it! The other thing you should of course do, if you haven't already done so, is set AWZ3 as the default conversion format, via "Preferences".
