Clicking on footnotes or other section links?

Is there any way to do this in the Kobo?

I haven't found any yet. If there isn't, that's really kind of annoying. :P

You can't do it. Pretty frustrating, actually.

Links work on magazines and newspapers--the up and down positions of the dpad control that function. So it's not that it can't be done on the Kobo, but rather that they have chosen not to implement it for books.

It would be nice if hitting the middle button while reading would pop up a link browser, rather than duplicating the function of the menu button. Oh well, if wishes were horses.

I just don't see how the Kobo will ever get any traction with readers of non-fiction, or anything approaching scholarly work, where efficient navigation between text and end notes is essential. The "go to" may help a little, if the reader can keep track of the last end note page they viewed, and where they should return to in the work.

You are absolutely correct, and I still buy almost all of my footnote/endnote heavy books as printed material. When I had a Sony reader I would license them, but not anymore. Even on the Sony with its touch screen interface it still wasn't as intuitive as a book with footnotes/endnotes. Simple as that.

Oh well, it's coming along, hopefully someone figures out how to make it work better/more imitative or they figure out a new paradigm.

Footnotes work just fine in my Sony. But the fact that you can't use them in the Kobo really muddles my experience. I barely use it because of that (strangely, of the last 10 ebooks I read —fiction or non-fiction— 8 use footnotes)

The Kobo's lack of support for hyperlinks is inexplicable. Hyperlinks are a fundamental feature of ebooks.
