Post Use of CloudConvert: PDF to DOCX etc

When converting from PDF to e-book formats CloudConvert (https://cloudconvert.com) will remove line end hard returns and maintain paragraph integrity. This was after trying all the line length adjustments in Calibre conversion which increasingly failed to work. I prefer to convert to DOCX so that I can easily create a ToC before converting to EPUB or MOBI formats for my Kindle. I know that Calibre developers are working on a new PDF conversion tool and wonder whether CloudConvert is using an opensource code or developing its proprietary product in-house for commercial purposes. CloudConvert is effectively a free online tool since restrictions on daily volume is very generous.

I'll give it a try.

If you have a recent edition of Word (IIRC 2016 and up) try opening the PDFs directly, it's become my first preference for dealing with PDFs - in many instances I don't even have to re-style.

Alas, working with Office 2010 version of Word from my partner's company for home use Seeing if they have an update. Sounds like it would save me hours eg replacing chapter fonts with H1 to build the ToC etc. Thanks

Calibres TOC tool , part of the Main GUI and also within the Editor can create TOC's by other than just Major Headings means.
( I haven't mastered them all. Kovid has done some brilliant stuff for us to use. Some goes waaay over my head )

In many cases the only thing I have to do after == PDF->Word 365 (stylise if needed)->DOCX->calibre(convert)->EPUB == is remove excess metadata. Wish I had had it a couple of years ago when I was dealing with 10-20 PDFs a day.

Well, until I get Word and 365, I've been doing down the PDF cropping route using PDF Candy (https://pdfcandy.com/pdf-to-word.html "further options" at foot of the page). The online editor is free and relatively fast. I split the file first so I get to crop the first page where headers and/or footers occur, then I join the file up and convert to DOCX for final ToC and edit. Way simpler than regex editing in text.
