Review "Kindle Oasis for Manga/comics"

In the video, I noticed something interesting. The KA1 shows details much better than the KO2. Amazon's dithering is not as good as Kobo's and it shows.

Given the larger screen and the better dithering which shows more details, I'd go with the KA1.

I turned on auto translation in youtube, and it worked ok. He does talk about the different levels of grayscal, and it very noticible

What dithering are you talking about? You mean the face for example that on the KA1 shows the light grey while the KO2 the camera settings clips it to white? The detail is there, but invisible in video because camera clipped it (screen on KO2 possibly set brighter).

The specific frames that show it the most are at 3:20 - 3:30. I think it is pretty noticible in this side by side.

Nothing was clipped out by the camera.
And except the part «*lecture dans le noir*», light was off on both screen.

So yes, as noticed, the Kindle Oasis 2 has a limited geyscale display, and you get less details in shadows and highlights.
That’s unfortunate.

What is noticeable? The clouds are there on both, for example.

Look at the difference in the darkness of the blue sky, the clouds between the left and middle mountains. Take a look at the detail in the mountains particularly the one on the left. Or look at the rooftop in the lower left corner. The Oasis 2 image looks washed out compared to the KA1 image.

Hmmmm... spending too many years with a densitometer is still showing.

Issues you describe might be caused by conversion and general behavior of KFX format.

It is possible that KO2 don't wash details - they are gone from images itself. Already seen multiple official releases butchered this way.

Also this type of content always look better live than on video.

Difference in darkness in the lighter areas possibly due to different exposure? It would be hard to tell unless you have a picture of both screens with ALL 16 levels of grey showing. I want to almost bet that the 16 levels of grey provided by the eink screen technology (no dithering software wise, but pure greys) is similar between the two. Overall the KO2 screen still looks brighter.

ETA: In the section with the light on in the dark, it is very clear that the Oasis is not lacking any details. Since color temperature can be adjusted on the Aura One, a fair comparison should have also included a shot with the color temperature of Aura One matched to the Oasis. I personally do not care too much about "correct" color temperature while reading in the dark and would take better contrast over color tint any day.

Exposure is the same since both Ereader are on the same shot, with zéro brigthness.

Actually, it's not visible on the video (never easy to get all the visual data with no external light), but there is, in the dark area, some lack of details on the KO 2.

I just cheked the same book on my Kindle voyage, and there is some missing details in highlights and shadows.
So it's not a Kindle Oasis issue.

Then I downloaded the book directcly from Amazon website in AZW3, and details are back.

Yeah. KFX conversion process and/or KFX rendered still need some work.

Manga features that are part of KFX format are fun but I still consider AZW3 format better for this type of content.
