Best way to convert to epub?
I've got quite a collection of lit, pdf and prc files that I'm thinking of converting to epub in preperation of possibly getting an ereader.
Which software would be best suited for this? Something that would allow to edit meta data and cover art would be a huge plus. |

I think that calibre could be OK (Inside the viewer you can change metada or with command line parameters)

What I do is use Calibre then check the ePub in ADE. If it looks OK then I stop there, if not I'll either pull it into Sigil to fix things or turn the ePub into a zip and tweak the html.

Calibre generally does a good job of converting Mobi books to ePub; I have no experience of other formats. PDFs are, of course, always problematic.

My attempts at making ePub versions of my ebooks have been frustrating. Sure, a text-only ebook is fairly easy to convert with Calibre/Sigil, but that doesn't hold true when you have a lot of footnotes and images, even if your source file is HTML.

That's where the "skill" of eBook creation comes in. Any non-trivial HTML source is going to require a significant amount of work to get a nice-looking eBook out of. That's why we have an "eBook Uploads" forum here, so that people can share the results of that work with others.
