Are publishers out to get Amazon?

For the second time, I pre-ordered a kindle book from Amazon and a week before it was due to come out, I got a note from Amazon saying that the order had been canceled because book would not be available as expected and they didn't know when it would be available. When I check on the Sony Store, the book was there and I was able to buy it.

What's up with this? Is this publishers trying to put Amazon in it's place, kind of like the Music industry tried to put the iTunes store in it's place?

It's one publisher, Penguin (and it's various labels). No one knows for sure what the deal is. It can't be about pricing as Amazon has gone along with Agency pricing for the other 4 of the 'Agency 5'. With independents such as Books On Board getting Penguin stuff finally that leave Amazon as the only one without.

Which sounds a bit more like Penguin is out to get us, as in charge more money than others.

Except everyone else has their books and the new prices are in line with what the rest of the Agency 5 are charging.

Looks like maybe things are worked out? Some of the recent Penguin titles (not all yet) appear to now be available. They aren't linked with the pbook releases yet, you have to search the Kindle section directly to find them at this point.
