Standard Reader for Epub

I need to create ePub and it should be compatible to various reader such as Adobe digitial Edition, Kindle, Mobi, Sony etc., I would like to fix the styles (by adjusting stylesheet based on the pdf layout) by viewing the ePub in one reader. The resultant ePub output should be rendered properly (more or less) in other readers as well. Which is the best reader for fixing the style?

Pretty much all devices which support ePub do so using the "Adobe Digital Editions" software. The PC/Mac version of ADE is your best bet for a "standard" ePub viewer.

I am rather confused by your post, though. What do you mean when you say "it should be compatible to various reader such as Adobe digitial Edition, Kindle, Mobi, Sony etc.". "Mobi" is an ebook format entirely distinct from ePub, and the Kindle does not support ePub at all (as I have already told you in a previous post).

Thanks for the reply. EPub will be converted to mobi and the same will be viewed in the Mobi reader and Kindle reader. ePub is the base for all the reader, i do not want to change the stylesheet based on each and every reader rendition. For example: The table which renders nicely in ADE may not render properly in Kindle etc.,

OK, I understand now. You need to be wary of using features like tables. They are very poorly supported (or, indeed, not supported at all) on some Mobi implementations.

Sony's Windows ebook Reader currently emulates a PRS-700, so it is a good way to check for Sony mobile ADE compatibility. The PRS-505 and 700 have an old version of ADE, but this may be upgraded soon and the PRS-300 and 600 will presumably have an up to date mobile ADE. The next version of the Sony desktop software will also be available on the Mac, and will presumably emulate a PRS-600. That will then be a good stand-in for any mobile ADE implementation (although there may still be some differences between mobile ADEs on devices from different vendors).

Sure the 505/700 have an older ADE. But at least when you increat the font size, the page number on the right side does not increase in size. It does on the EZ Reader and it will on the Pocket Pro as well. Supposedly it might be fixed on the Pocket Pro. But not in time for release.

It is interesting that Sony and Amazon both have an "update firmware rarely" policy, Jinke has an update frequently policy, and other vendors seem to be between the two. Sony and Amazon can get away with this partly by producing good initial firmwares, partly by being so big that everyone has to work around their bugs, and partly by lowering their customers expectations of updates. The downside of Jinke's approach is that there is much less initial testing and polishing, so new capabilities have bugs. It is actually the vendors between the two I have the most issues with, inadequate quality control before release and then they don't promptly fix issues and introduce new features.

As I was trying to say, if you want a "generic" mobile ADE for testing it has to be from Sony. They currently dominate mobile ADE device sales.
