Alex (droid e-reader) by spring design
Anyone know about these devices. Starting to look a lot better than the nook I cancelled..

I found a demo video on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwMKACAty7U This thing looks much more capable than the nook. Its color LCD screen can surf the web and content can be transfered to the e-ink screen for reading. Yes, the Alex does seem to be more multifunctional than the nook, and may be a good choice for those wanting that flexibility.
The only issue right now is that it may never see the light of day. Spring Design has a prototype, but apparently not really anything else needed to launch the device. Apparently they'd been seeking a content partnership with Barnes & Noble as well as assistance in manufacturing/production and distribution channels. Not to mention they haven't applied for FCC clearance yet. So...that whole thing about being on the market by the end of the year? No chance. |
