External viewer opens temp file

Is there a way to open the original ebook file (pdf for example) in external viewer on "View" action, instead of copying it to a temp file first? For now external viewers cannot remember information about already opened files (like last readed page).

The view action does not use a temp file.

I am using Evince as external reader, on a Debian system with Awesome window manager. Is there possible that Evince is launched in preview mode and GTK+ is creating a temporary file? There are some rules for launching an external reader, or everything is managed by OS using general settings for default applications?

I have no idea, it will depend on your system setup. calibre simply hands off to the OS when viewing a file.

In this case, I'll search for solution in system settings. Thank you for info.
