How To Remove White Border From Epub Cover

Again, I hope this is okay posted in the Calibre thread.

I actually have 2 epub files that I made with InDesign CS4 on a Mac. I exported it for digital editions that converts it to an epub. When I look at it in Adobe Digital Editions, it looks good, except that there is a white border around the cover image. I look at it in Calibre and it has a white border there also. I went in and edited the metadata individually in Calibre and changed the book cover to the same file that I used in the original InDesign document and it seemed to work. I uploaded it to Stanza and it looked good. However, I opened it back up in Adobe Digital Editions and it still has the white border.
I've seem post that say to unzip the epub and change the CSS, but that doesn't help in my case, at least it didn't when I tried it a week ago. (I might have done something wrong though).
Would anyone have a straight and clear answer for me? Thanks for all the help, everyone has been so helpful on my last few questions.

You need to use the svg technique to have your image automatically scaled to the screen size. The only problem is taht technique doesn't work in stanza.

To see how it is done just convert some test file to epub in calibre with a cover specified. calibre will create a svg based cover that wont have a white border. You can open up the epub and learn how it is done from there.

Great. I tried that and it took the white border away...kind of. It now has a white lines at the top and the bottom of the cover image. Do I need to re-size the image or what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I took an epub file that I made in InDesign, added it to Calibre, changed the cover image and then converted it to epub again in Calibre. Where did I go wrong?

Nowhere I forgot that the calibre svg cover preserves image aspect ratio. If you want the image to fill the screen irrespective of aspect ration edit the html file of the cover and change

preserveAspectRatio="xmidymid meet"

to

preserveAspectRation="none"

next release of calibre will have an option in the EPUB output to toggle this.

Thanks! I've been looking for this option, too!

I didn't realize that was in the SVG options. I need to learn more about that.

I've looked both at my html cover file before and after converting it and changing the cover image in Calibre, and neither of them even have a "preserveAspectRatio." Below is the code I have from the one converted in Calbre. Could you tell me what to remove/add? What I'm doing wrong and need to change for future use? Thanks so much.

Make sure you don't have No SVG cover checked in the EPUB output settings in calibre when converting the book.

yeah but the non svg covers preserve aspect ratio no matter what. That option only applies to svg covers.

Great. Awesome. I went back and converted my epub in Calibre and checked the preserve aspect ratio box. There's no border around my thumbnail in calibre or stanza, but in Adobe Digital Editions there is. I haven't checked it on the iPad yet, which hopefully I can do today. The only other issue I have is, can you tell me why there are 2 images of my cover in the epub file? In stanza the first one doesn't even show up, but the second does. But can you tell me how to get rid of one of them? Thanks again.

check the remove first image setting in the conversion options and be aware that SVG covers do not work in stanza.
