I don't understand the question. Do you mean can you exchange files between the Sony and an Android or iOS device?

"Should have had" is of course very much a matter of personal perception. The Sony is sold as a PDF reader, and that's a job it does pretty well.

This is taobao page in Chinese. They've been selling jailbroken s1 for a while, so this is probably not a fake. But they ask RMB7800 (~USD1,150.05) for a hacked RP1 (Japanese model), which scared me out of my wits

Actually it was not presented as a PDF reader...

it is misleading presented as a "document" reading and writing tool, combined with the possibility of managing the "documents" over networks, integrating the "digital paper" in the business plan etc etc etc.
It's only a last word that restricts the use to PDF.

Similarly, a lawnmower may be presented as a compact sport utility vehicle

Regarding IOS, someone indeed turned his Android phone into IOS, but it's never been confirmed, a rare case and extremely hard I believe
