Things I Noticed On My K3 WiFi/3G
There's an option under settings to set local time manually. Was that on the K2 and if so how did I miss it?
Also, my version is Kindle 3.0 (515460094) if that means anything to anybody. For some reason I was expecting 2.5.X? Serial Number is B006 Defaulted to 3G on start-up but no problem at all connecting to the home router rather than 3G. It came with a full charge. I'm going to leave it for a bit and watch for a battery drain. Screen is freakin' awesome! I'm so excited. |

I don't think the option was there, at least originally. I remember forum posts from people who had Kindles but no Whispernet, who couldn't set their time.
And congrats on your new Kindle. Mine is still a week away. |

I would guess that the Wifi only K3 uses pretty much the same firmware, but obviously it cannot always get the time from the internet, so it clearly needs that option.

The manual time option is new to K3 - probably to accommodate wifi connectivity that doesn't broadcast a time signal like cell towers do.
I wish K2 had it since my time requires a correction (reboot or 311) every day or two. |

Well I guess we're on 3.0 because of the new fonts and pdf contrast options and pdf annotating abilities..... in addition to the menu bar dissapearing while reading and other things... I'm kinda hoping that tomorrow an update will be sent out for the previous Kindle models giving them the same functionality... I REALLY NEED PDF annotating abilities for my KDXG...

I think the hardware differences are likely sufficient to mandate a separate firmware line. I've read it's a different processor in the Kindle 3.
