Rohmer, Sax: Sax Rohmer Anthology, Vol 1. v6. 29 Dec 2009
Just for a bit of fun, here are the first three books of Sax Rohmer's "Fu-Manchu" series in a handy anthology. The books are:
1. The Insidious Dr Fu Manchu 2. The Devil Doctor (aka The Return of Dr Fu-Manchu) 3. The Hand of Fu-Manchu (aka The Si-Fan Mysteries) Hope this doesn't offend anyone - these are quite astonishingly "non-PC" by today's standards. In case anyone is unfamiliar with them, these are detective/thriller stories about the struggles of the heroic British government agent, Nayland Smith (an early "James Bond" type) to foil the dastardly plots of Dr Fu-Manchu, the chief agent of the "yellow peril" (ie China) to overthrow the "white races" (I told you it was "non-PC"!). Obviously the social attitudes portrayed are long gone, but the actual stories are wonderful - Dr Fu-Manchu is the ultimate "evil genius scientist" and his plots are truly fiendish. Well worth a read! Unfortunately these are the only "Fu-Manchu" books available electronically, but PG has half a dozen or so more of Sax Rohmer's books available, and they're all great! I'll put together a couple more anthologies of the others. Enjoy! EDIT: 2 Jan 08 Created a proper MobiPocket version of the book with library information, working table of contents link, etc. Uploaded v3. EDIT: 24 Aug 08 Improved the formatting. Uploaded v4. EDIT: 31 Aug 08 While reading the book, noted many minor errors which have now been corrected. Uploaded v5. EDIT: 29 Dec 09 Sorted out some issues with the HTML code. Added a new cover image. Uploaded v6. |

Thanks Harry!
I'm reading a few serious works with my Christmas jetBook Lite, and I think this will be my first fun reading on it. |

Rohmer died in 1959, so his works are now public domain in Canada. I hope the rest of the Fu-Manchu books will be appearing in the net now

I've actually downloaded these Fu-Manchu books from gutenberg, but have not read so far. Indeed, vitorian and post-victorian fiction, like "King Solomon's Mines" are very PC by today's standards. I was interested to read though the original sources for many cartoons I grew up with, like "Hong Kong Phooey", "The perils of Penelope Pitstop" and many other Hanna-Barbera subjects. Also, Scooby Doo draws heavily on Sherlock Holmes and similars...
the originals are far better though. I'm enjoying Arsène Lupin very much. |
