Maybe they changed them to match the Amazon categories or something.

For the last month, a lot of the sub-genres were broken out into their own category. Both EreaderIQ and FreeReadFeed seem to constantly tinker with categories: adding, subtracting, etc. For the last couple of days FreeReadFeed had separate categories for "Science Fiction" and "Science Fiction & Fantasy" (gone now).

I expect several of these sites to disappear starting March 1. Amazon just made a huge change to their affiliate program and if too many free books are purchased using referral links, the affiliate loses all income for the month....

Interesting information that I wasn't aware of, so much thanks.

It looks like on the linked site I listed that 'Horror' is back today.

Free novella preorder for 6/4/2013 from Samhain: Night Terrors by Jonathan Janz.

Quote:
Peaceful Valley is about to become a slaughterhouse!

Jesse thinks he’s caught a break when he, the girl of his dreams, and her friend are assigned by their newspaper to cover the opening weekend of the Peaceful Valley Nature Preserve, a sprawling, isolated state park. But the construction of the park has stirred an evil that has lain dormant for nearly a century, and the three young people—as well as every man, woman, and child unlucky enough to be attending the grand opening—are about to encounter the most horrific creatures to ever walk the earth. A species so ferocious that Peaceful Valley is about to be plunged into a nightmare of bloodshed and damnation.

I'm disturbed by what this change might mean to blogs and websites that I find really useful- I've seen it mentioned in a couple of threads today.
I've opened a thread in the Discussions forum here:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=206515
and I'd love to hear from those more knowledgeable than me on what to expect.

Free Crypto-Squad

Crypto-Squad by Jason Brannon and Eric S. Brown is free...
http://www.amazon.com/Crypto-Squad-ebook/dp/B009G4BI7A

I was psyched to see this one for free because it was on my wishlist. Eric S. Brown is a really popular indie author. I'm reading one of his Bigfoot novels right now.

Here is an interview with Eric S. Brown by the really nifty Rue Morgue magazine:

Free from Accent Press: Bandwith - the Ghost of Devlin Mallard by N.S. Cooke.

Quote:
Inspired to rediscover his roots and family history, computer programmer Michael, soon learns that the past is sometimes best left undisturbed: lurking in the history of his bloodline is a twisted killer, Devlin Mallard. A man dispatched from this earth in 1929 at the end of a hangman’s noose.

In the 21st Century, spirits have moved on from Ouija boards and séances. The dead now travel by broadband – hidden in the Bandwidth. They inhabit the chat rooms, plying their trade online, ever hungry for contact with the living.

Now freed from the darkness and roaming cyberspace, this ghost is hell-bent on exacting revenge and unleashing mayhem.

Fighting for his life, and that of his family, Michael joins forces with murder investigator, Detective Sergeant Woods, and rides a roller-coaster of global killings to the final confrontation. He must face his demon and return Devlin Mallard to the darkness.

KDP freebie self-pub technothriller from J.A. Konrath/Jack Kilborn, if you've been collecting his work: Origin

Quote:
Thriller writer J.A. Konrath, author of the Lt. Jack Daniels series, digs into the vaults and unearths a technohorror tale from the depths of hell...

1906 - Something is discovered by workers digging the Panama Canal. Something dormant. Sinister. Very much alive.

2009 - Project Samhain. A secret underground government installation begun 103 years ago in New Mexico. The best minds in the world have been recruited to study the most amazing discovery in the history of mankind. But the century of peaceful research is about to end.

Because it just woke up.
