If you will follow the path below, you can find find ebooks with "narration for $3.99 or less." Then, if you sort the hits from low to high, theoretically you will find the less expensive books (Amazon's "low to high" sort doesn't work well for some reason .

The path is "Kindle Store : Whispersync for Voice: Add Narration for $3.99 or Less". You may have to select "Add Narration for $3.99 or Less" from the menu on the far left side of the webpage.
<snip>
Three quick points:

- Near the bottom of some of the webpages with hits, there is a statement, "This search may have been filtered to remove less relevant results. Click here to include these items in your results". You may need to click there to find more results.

- Unfortunately, the page with the hits gives the prices of the ebooks, but not prices of the audiobooks. You've got to click on one of the links for the ebook to find out the the price for the audio of that particular book. But, the website is, after all, an ebook site (Amazon), not an audiobook site (Audible).

- It does take a little effort to navigate to the page where you can start doing the searching. If you like what you see there, be sure to bookmark the webpage where you can start doing the searching.

Happy bargain hunting.

$5.98 WS Deal! Maximum Influence: The 12 Universal Laws of Power Persuasion.

The author is Kurt Mortensen.

This is the best WS deal that I've seen on a non-Kindle exclusive in quite some time.

Description
Salespeople, consultants, managers, executives, entrepreneurs. . . Influence is a crucial tool for absolutely anyone seeking success and prosperity. But how can everyday people actually become more influential? Maximum Influence unlocks the secrets of the master influencers. Now in an all-new edition, the book combines scientific research with real-world studies, presenting the most authoritative and effective arsenal of persuasion techniques ever. Author and renowned expert Kurt Mortensen reveals the 12 Laws of Persuasion, explaining why each law works, how to use it, and what to avoid. You will learn about the law of dissonance, the law of contrast, the law of expectation-and nine other proven principles that consciously and unconsciously propel people to act. You will also discover how to: * Read anyone instantly * Get people to trust you instinctively * Change minds easily * And convince anyone to give you almost anything With new case studies and cutting-edge influencing techniques, this is the ultimate guide to the art and science of getting exactly what you want-when you want.

The total price of the deal breaks down like this: $1.99-ebook + $3.99-audio narration; total--$5.98.

This is a highly rated book, with 5.0(4) at Amazon, and 3.71(52) at GoodReads (a generally harder-to-please crowd, in my experience).

I've noticed that a lot of the cheaper WS deals lately are cheap because they're skimpy on the number of pages in the book (=a skimpy amount of listening time). This book isn't skimpy--it has 256 pages.

If you decide to buy, you can go here to get the whole deal.

$2.98 TOTAL for WS Deal about Woman Overcoming Mao Ze Dong"s (sp?) Labor Camps . . .

. . . . with Her Piano.

The Secret Piano: From Mao's Labor Camps to Bach's Goldberg Variations. Author: Zhu Xiao-Mei; Translator: Ellen Hinsey

Description
Zhu Xiao-Mei was born to middle-class parents in post-war China, and her musical proficiency became clear at an early age. Taught to play the piano by her mother, she developed quickly into a prodigy, immersing herself in the work of classical masters like Bach and Brahms. She was just ten years old when she began a rigorous course of study at the Beijing Conservatory, laying the groundwork for what was sure to be an extraordinary career. But in 1966, when Xiao-Mei was seventeen, the Cultural Revolution began, and life as she knew it changed forever. One by one, her family members were scattered, sentenced to prison or labor camps. By 1969, the art schools had closed, and Xiao-Mei was on her way to a work camp in Mongolia, where she would spend the next five years. Life in the camp was nearly unbearable, thanks to horrific living conditions and intensive brainwashing campaigns. Yet through it all Xiao-Mei clung to her passion for music and her sense of humor. And when the Revolution ended, it was the piano that helped her to heal. Heartbreaking and heartwarming, The Secret Piano is the incredible true story of one woman’s survival in the face of unbelievable odds—and in pursuit of a powerful dream.

I bought the ebook a while back (I paid $1.99; it's $0.99 today ). Anyway, for some reason, I didn't spring for the audio narration then. I sprang for it today--it's $1.99. Add $0.99 and $1.99 and you get $2.98--that's the price that you can get the WS deal for today (ebook + audio narration + sync'ing benefit!).

The ratings for the ebook are great--4.3 stars (602) at Amazon; 3.92 (1,986) at GoodReads

Even if you forget the ebook and the sync'ing, you still have the Audible audiobook for $2.98! What a deal!

Get the whole WS deal at the Amazon webpage for the book.

My homily for the day (a repeat):
The book is a Kindle exclusive.

Amazon has rather quietly become a huge publisher, with boo koos (a colloquial American and British English word--probably a corruption of the French beaucoup, meaning "many") of imprints.

We often think that good WS deals have almost dried up. They have--except for those of the Amazon imprints. No, you can't find some specific titles that you're interested in, but you can find WS deals beginning at $2.98 (and perhaps less). If you're just interested in some good stuff to read, and especially to listen to, I encourage you to sign up for the Kindle exclusives emails.

$3.48 for WS Deal on the #1 Seller in Gothic Romance--The Matrimonial Advertisement.

It's taken a while, but I've finally found a respectably-priced WS deal.

The #1 seller in Gothic Romance, at Amazon.

Author is Mimi Matthews. It's a self-pub. Don't shy away because of that--the book's got a 4.6-star rating, from 118 reviews, at Amazon.

This is Book 1 of Matthews' Parish Orphans of Devon series.

It has 388 pages.

The Description
She Wanted Sanctuary...

Helena Reynolds will do anything to escape her life in London, even if that means traveling to a remote cliffside estate on the North Devon coast and marrying a complete stranger. But Greyfriar's Abbey isn't the sort of refuge she imagined. And ex-army captain Justin Thornhill--though he may be tall, dark, and devastatingly handsome--is anything but a romantic hero.

He Needed Redemption...

Justin has spent the last two decades making his fortune, settling scores, and suffering a prolonged period of torture in an Indian prison. Now, he needs someone to smooth the way for him with the villagers. Someone to manage his household--and warm his bed on occasion. What he needs, in short, is a wife and a matrimonial advertisement seems the perfect way to acquire one.

Their marriage was meant to be a business arrangement and nothing more. A dispassionate union free from the entanglements of love and affection. But when Helena's past threatens, will Justin's burgeoning feelings for his new bride compel him to come to her rescue? Or will dark secrets of his own force him to let her go?

In case anyone cares, here's how the total cost of $3.48 breaks down: ebook $1.49 + audio $1.98.

Link to the book.

$3.98 Whispersync Deal for Sci-Fi Lovers--Theresa Kay's Broken Skies.

First g8 WS deal that I've seen in a while . . . .

Broken Skies, by Theresa Kay. Book 1 of 3 in the 3-book Sci-Fi Broken Skies series.

$0.99--ebook + $2.99--audio narration = $3.98 WS deal! The audio, alone, at Audible is $17.95 (non-member price). That means that this WS deal is a good deal, but with the ebook's 297 pages, and a correspondingly-lengthed audio narration, there's lots of "bang for the buck."

Description
An uneasy alliance between Jax and an alien boy turns into a connection neither of them expected… and the bond between them could be the catalyst for an inter-species war.

When Jax Mitchell’s twin is kidnapped by Earth's alien settlers, the E'rikon, she'll do anything to get him back—even team up with a teenage alien left behind by the same ship that took her brother.

Jax agrees to act as a guide, and in return, the alien agrees to sneak her into the E'rikon city. Too bad it's not that simple. Jax soon finds that she's drawn to the alien boy with bright green hair and jewel-like scales on his back—and he's equally affected by her, the courageous redhead with haunted eyes. But she doesn't know the alien's true motives, and he has no idea that she is much more than she seems.

With the aliens and the humans at odds, the connection forming between the two teens has consequences. What started off as a rescue mission sets in motion a chain of events that threatens not only the remaining humans and the growing alien society, but Earth itself.

Attention Race Fans: Check Out the WS Deal on this Ebook about Janet Guthrie!

GA Russell made a post, on the Less than $3 thread, of the book, _Speed Car: Janet Guthrie and the Race that Changed Sports Forever_. She was the spark plug that paved the way for women to be race car drivers (yes, the preceding metaphors were intended as puns ), at least as far as modern times in the USA are concerned.

I had forgotten all about Janet Guthrie, and had been thinking that Danica Kirkpatrick, of more recent times, held that honor (Guthrie and Kirkpatrick drove on different "circuits," though--Guthrie on the INDY-type car circuit, and Kirkpatrick on the popular NASCAR circuit). But when I saw Guthrie's face on the Amazon book product page, I instantly remembered her from seeing photos of her years ago.

Well, the ebook that GA Russell posted has a WS deal on it. The WS deal is only _$2.98_. The number breaks down this way: $0.99-ebook + $1.99-audio narration = _$2.98_. Ratings for the book and the audio are both very good. A caveat is that there aren't all that many pages in the book, so the audio narration is not particularly long--about 3 hours in length.

You've got to see the product page for the book, at Amazon! It is the coolest that I've ever seen at Amazon. The thumbnail of the book is especially cool. The book is one of the rare "Kindle in Motion" ebooks (BTW--This feature may more than offset, in your mind, any perceived shortcomings in the size/length of the ebook/audio).

If the WS deal (or just the ebook, for that matter) sounds attractive, head over to GA Russell's post on the Less than $3 thread. And thanks to him, once again, for making a post that I could piggyback on for this thread .

Buy the Ebook of Pride and Prejudice for $0.00, Get the Audible Audio for 99 Cents.

Frankly, I'm beginning to wonder if some things that I've posted on this thread are really Whispersync deals. The following is a case in point. You miss out on the syncing benefit on non-WS deals.

Pride and Prejudice. By Jane Austen.

Of course, I've heard of the book. But I'm clueless as to what it's about. Yes, I'm uncultured, when it comes to knowing the classics. But so what?

The audio is only 99 cents, if you buy the book for $0.00.

Go here to get the deal.

Great ($5.48) WS(?) Deal about How Authors of Fictional Literature Did/Do Their Work.

Process: The Writing Lives of Great Authors. By Sarah Stodola.

4.3 stars, from 62 reviews, at Amazon.

(I think that the content is limited to authors of fiction only. Full description of the book below).

270 pages.

$5.48 WS(?) deal: $1.99-ebook + $3.49-audio. The audio alone (no ebook included!) at Audible is $17.95 or $14.95!

You get an extra freebie from buying the Kindle ebook, above--a 25% credit to spend on a Great on Kindle book, from select categories.

Description
Ernest Hemingway, Zadie Smith, Joan Didion, Franz Kafka, David Foster Wallace, and more. In Process, acclaimed journalist Sarah Stodola examines the creative methods of literature’s most transformative figures. Each chapter contains a mini biography of one of the world’s most lauded authors, focused solely on his or her writing process. Unlike how-to books that preach writing techniques or rules, Process puts the true methods of writers on display in their most captivating incarnation: within the context of the lives from which they sprang. Drawn from both existing material and original research and interviews, Stodola brings to light the fascinating, unique, and illuminating techniques behind these literary behemoths.

_Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers: The Acclaimed Guide to Stress, Stress-Related Diseases, and Coping_ - Now Revised and Updated (3rd edition). By Robert M. Sapolsky.

WS deal _$5.98_ ($1.99-ebook + $3.99-audio narration). The audio, alone, at Audible, _for members_, is $15!

It's more expensive than my hyper-frugal self likes to buy or even to post, but it's got great bang for the buck, punch for the pound, _et al._:
- The ebook is a huge 559 pages (making for a long audio, also, for your money).
- The ebook is a 4.6-star at Amazon.
- It's the most recent (the 3rd) edition.

One of the Better WhisperSync Deals that I've Run Across in Recent Years.

Man-Eater: The Life and Legend of an American Cannibal. By Harold Schechter.

WS Deal only $2.98 ($0.99-ebook + $1.99-audio)! For those unfamiliar with Whispersync deals, you get the ebook, audiobook, and sync'ing of the two, for less (sometimes much less) than you can by buying the audio alone. And you don't have to be a member at Audible to get the great audio price!

Adequate rating--3.9 stars (but the ratings are well-distributed).

Lots of extra "bang for the buck" comes from the ebook having 373 pages.

A ghastly real-life story, reminiscent of that of the Donner Party tragedy nearly 30 years earlier:
In the winter of 1873, a small band of prospectors lost their way in the frozen wilderness of the Colorado Rockies. Months later, when the snow finally melted, only one of them emerged. His name was Alfred G. Packer, though he would soon become infamous throughout the country under a different name: “the Man-Eater.”

After the butchered remains of his five traveling companions were discovered in a secluded valley by the Gunnison River, Packer vanished for nine years, becoming the West’s most wanted man. What followed was a saga of evasion and retribution as the trial of the century worked to extricate fact from myth and Polly Pry, a once-famed pioneering journalist, took on the cause of Packer.
Man-Eater is the definitive story of a legendary crime—a gripping tale of unspeakable suffering, the desperate struggle for survival, and the fight to uncover the truth.

$5.46 WS Deal on Killing the Bismarck: Destroying the Pride of Hitler's Fleet.

By Iain Ballantyne.

A very good 4.4 stars, from 173 reviews.

The math: $1.99-ebook + $3.47-Audible audio = $5.46.

Lots of reading, with 320 pages. Lots of reading = a nice, long audio listening time!

Description
In May 1941, the German battleship Bismarck, accompanied by heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, broke out into the Atlantic to attack Allied shipping. The Royal Navy’s pursuit and subsequent destruction of Bismarck was an epic of naval warfare.

In this new account of those dramatic events at the height of the Second World War, Iain Ballantyne draws extensively on the graphic eyewitness testimony of veterans, to construct a thrilling story, mainly from the point of view of the British battleships, cruisers, and destroyers involved. He describes the tense atmosphere as cruisers play a lethal cat and mouse game, shadowing
Bismarck in the icy Denmark Strait. We witness the shocking destruction of the British battle cruiser Hood, in which all but three of her ship’s complement were killed—an event that filled pursuing Royal Navy warships, including the battered battleship Prince of Wales, with a thirst for revenge. While Swordfish torpedo-bombers try desperately to cripple the Bismarck, we sail in destroyers on their own daring torpedo attacks, battling mountainous seas.

Finally, the author takes us into the final showdown, as battleships
Rodney and King George V, supported by cruisers Norfolk and Dorsetshire, destroy the pride of Hitler’s fleet. This vivid, superbly researched account portrays this epic saga through the eyes of so-called “ordinary sailors” caught up in extraordinary events—conveying the horror and majesty of war at sea in all its cold brutality and awesome power.
