Fantasy or Sci-fi author
Hi, would you mind suggest me a good fantasy or sci-fi author with a simple and fluent english?
I began to learn english mainly reading Tolkien, but, since I'am improving quite slowly, I would like to try something easier. More suggetions are welcome |

If you're looking for slightly simpler English, are you open to trying children's or middle grade/young adult books? ("Middle grade" are aimed at readers aged 8-12). There are many many choices - a few are: When You Reach Me, The Fourteenth Goldfish, The City of Ember, Mrs Frisby, The Little Prince, Sal and Gabi Break the Universe, Race to the Sun, Catching Teller Crow (sold as The Things She's Seen in the USA), the Percy Jackson series, Akata Witch, the Dark Is Rising series, the Sabriel series, Roald Dahl, Diana Wynne Jones (try the Chrestomanci series or Howl's Moving Castle), Neil Gaiman (Coraline, Stardust or The Graveyard Book), the Ranger's Apprentice books, the Hitchhiker's Guide series, Scott Westerfeld. |

My standard answer for the best fantasy is the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik.

David Eddings Belgariad series.
Andre Norton's books. Little Fuzzy by H. Beam Piper. The Witches of Karres by James Schmitz. Hopsital Station series by James White. Books by Tamora Pierce starting with Wild Magic. These are all easy reads. Last edited by crossi; 03-10-2021 at 12:05 PM. |

I suggest reading Rick Riordan. His Percy Jackson series is good and it's a very easy read.

Just reading Countdown by Michael Atamanov. It's kind of like Ready Player One. It's simple and fun and a good page turner.

I liked Dune quite a bit. I'm currently on heretics, although it has started to slow down.

How about The Letter for the King by Tonke Dragt. I just read it and it is a very straight forward read.

Like you, I've improved my English by reading a lot of science fiction and fantasy. That results in a weird vocabulary -- I realized once that I knew half a dozen synonyms for "wizard", but had no idea of the English word for that thing with wheels you push around when transporting a baby (The word is "stroller", someone told me.)
Lots of good suggestions here. Here are some more. I've added the first paragraphs of one of their books so you can get an idea of the language (in spoiler tags, so the post doesn't get too huge): Sarah Rees Brennan Spoiler:
Shannon Hale Spoiler:
Seanan McGuire Spoiler:
Tamora Pierce Spoiler:

The Penrod and Desdemona series by Bujold starting with Penrod's Demon. They are all good and as they are only novella length inexpensive.
