Can't say I'm familiar with the term. I do read in English, but I'm not a native speaker.

You read in English and yet are not familiar with the terms "science fiction", "fantasy" or "horror"?

All are examples of speculative fiction the OP included in their mention of the website they linked to.

Like Colonel Cathcart I was not familiar with the term "speculative fiction" even though I have very good understanding of English. But with the examples given (and probably without them as well) I could guess, and to be sure I asked my good friend Google. (Google also provided me with information about the author Colonel mentioned who is now on my TBR. Thanks!)

Yes, even as an L1 English speaker, "specualtive fiction" is a relatively new term to me - I did not know it a year ago. THat's why it was good the OP included example genres that made it very clear what they were referring to

Other than than, that was the only memory of the book :/

One has to wonder 'What if' the story concept (creator) had been paired with an established writer

You end up with someone who cannot tell a story when the established writer moves to another project. Besides, why would the established writer even bother in the first place? They’ve got their own ideas, why do they need to bother with somebody else’s ideas? That only leads to accusations of plagiarism.

No, better that the creator learns writing craft; if they cannot hold an audience it’s best they find another job.

Since January of this year and my subsequent Kindle boycott, it makes me very sad to see "Read with Kindle Unlimited..." on anything not from a big publisher. Seriously, ... KDP Select.

The other day I got an email newsletter from an author I follow in which she mentioned that her current series is going to KU. I replied expressing my disappointment but also stressing that I understood why. She took the time to reply, which was nice:

Quote:
Thank you so much for writing to me. I was disappointed too, to be honest. I chose to go to all storefronts (authors call it going Wide) with my books for good reasons. I *like* Kobo and Barnes & Noble and Apple. But i just can't find readers there.

I will definitely send the next book wide before I enrol it at Amazon. They can just wait! I really hope not to stay there forever, and am enrolling it in KU so I can fund the editing and covers for future books and series. I'm not even trying to make bank, just keep my little writing ship afloat :-)

Kind regards,

yeah -- the frustrating part is that I imagine that, at least certain genres, the bulk of readers is going to be coming from KU. But Amazon locks up KU behind the exclusivity wall. Anticompetitive crap.

I hope that Kobo Plus doesn't pull this crap and does well enough to undercut Amazon a bit.

Barnes & Noble offered me their $40-a-year premium membership, which would've given me 10% off and free shipping for a free eBook. Okay then!

What a lovely message. If that had been a reply to a message from me, they would definitely have made me want to buy their next book at full price upon release.

I was splitting my "Juvenile & Young Adult" section in Calibre to Juvenile (middle grade and younger) and Young Adult (older than middle grade).

I wasn't entirely sure of target age of one book, so I used Calibre to run a quick metadata search. In the tags I got both Juvenile Fiction and Young Adult. Very helpful.

Every time I take my eReader to wait for appointments, one of the two happens:

a) They call me in right away.
b) They call me in just when I got to the good part.

Of course, if I forget my eReader, they're running behind an hour
